Time is not on my side, but this has to be done. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. Let’s do this.
What are some wrestling characters and/or gimmicks that you loved back in the day that the general public would have a complete meltdown hissy fit about today?
Baron Von Raschke as the goose-stepping Nazi is one. Col. DeBeers as the extreme racist is another. Kevin Sullivan’s “cult leader” gimmick was great, but couldn’t be done today, and hell, any of the tag teams managed by Lou Albano (The Samoans, The Moondogs) would be blasted. Being a Russian or a Shiek would be a no-no today as well, and what if someone was a “mental patient”, such as Norman the Lunatic? Any of those characters would cause a complete meltdown these days from the “Woken” fans.
With Flair coming back for “one last match” at age 73, what other old-time wrestlers from that era would you like to see come back and wrestle one more time?
I don’t want to see any old timers come back to do “one more match”, but I think Bob Backlund could easily pull it off. I don’t think Booker T or Stevie Ray would have any problems getting back in the ring either, but who really wants to see Harlem Heat back? I’ve got it. Who needs to come back, get a big event in their honor, and do one more match? Disco Inferno. And there you go.
WWE has brought back Hit Row. Thoughts?
The most important and best part of Hit Row was Swerve Strickland, who is now in AEW, so is this a good return? I wasn’t impressed very much with their NXT run or their appearance on the main roster before, but let’s wait and see how it goes before I comment if it’s good or bad. They deserve a chance to show what they can do and if it was a good move or not. Let’s see what happens.
Now that Vince is gone and HHH is in charge would you love to see a WWE and AEW crossover?
It would be fun from a fan’s point of view, but to be honest, why would WWE do it? They have nothing to gain from cross-promoting with AEW and it would only just make AEW look stronger and like WWE’s equal, which they’re clearly not. When thinking about the possible matches and the promotion, it would be exciting for sure, but it will never happen.
Ivan Koloff versus Miro. Who wins?
I like Miro and he’s awesome, but Uncle Ivan, aka The Russian Bear, is a legend and former WWWF Champion and he would take a beating but end up outsmarting the Bulgarian Brute to take the win in any matchup, as it should be.
Should “Butch” go back to his Pete Dunne character/gimmick?
Yes! I don’t know what the hell Vince was thinking with this character change, but “The Bruiserweight” Pete Dunne was and is money waiting to be made. “Butch” should be retired and forgotten about, never to be mentioned again, while The Bruiserweight kicks ass and wins much gold on the WWE main roster.
Should WWE bring back the Mixed Match Challenge?
I liked it and it was a fun idea that gave us several odd combinations and many great matches. I wouldn’t recommend bringing it back for no reason. Give it a purpose for being, but yeah, bring it back. And bring back the team of Asuka & The Miz as well. They were… wait for it… AWESOME!
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions you may have are welcome and appreciated. Until the next time, be good and watch out for foreign objects. I’ll see you at the matches.
