Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Asuka, Vince McMahon, Bobby Lashley & More
December 15, 2022
Just like Jim Cornette at the Dairy Queen Drive Thru, I’m ready to explode. Well, maybe it’s just gas? Are you ready for another new edition of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A? Let’s get funky like a monkey and walk that aisle. Wooo!
Asuka seems to be changing her in-ring character to Kana, the murder clown she portrayed in the early days of her career. Thoughts?
Asuka seems to be getting a bit stale as of late so they’re tweaking her character. I like it. Asuka is arguably one of the best talents, regardless of gender, currently in the WWE, but even steak gets old when you have it every night. She’s been in a slump but is going back to her roots. I’m looking forward to seeing how this develops.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Vince McMahon has been considering a comeback to WWE. Thoughts?
I hope they’re wrong because Vince back in WWE is the absolutely last thing that company needs. The morale is up. The shows are good again. Triple H is doing a great job and the company is thriving. Having Vince return will essentially trash every bit of progress that has been made under the HHH regime and will hurt the company far more than it may be able to recover from. Vince needs to stay in Florida, date the young chicks, and sign the checks, nothing more. Vince back in WWE would be a terrible thing.
Sabu versus Jos LeDuc. Who wins?
Sabu is homicidal, genocidal, suicidal, and all of that, but Jos LeDuc was just big, massive, and totally kick-ass dangerous. LeDuc would win.
The Ascension (Konnor & Viktor) versus The Powers of Pain (Warlord & Barbarian). Who wins?
I was a big fan of The Ascension, but I’m an even bigger fan of The Powers of Pain. Warlord and Barbarian would win.
Adam Pearce “fired” Bobby Lashley on RAW and then Tuesday, quietly rescinded the termination. What is WWE trying to do with Lashley?
Honestly, I have no idea what WWE is trying to do unless it’s setting up a future match between Lashley and Adam Pearce which actually wouldn’t be a bad match at all. Pearce, back in his ROH days, was a pretty good wrestler. But I doubt that’s it. Maybe the deal is to make Lashley more rebellious and kind of like an All-Mighty version of Stone Cold? This one has me baffled. I’ll think about it and get back to you.
Did Tony overpay for ROH? Holy crap. 10 bucks to watch a weekly ROH show is bad. And you know there is no tv deal in sight because the Briscoes and Claudio are champs.
I don’t know exactly what Tony paid for ROH, but so far, I don’t think he’s managing it well or getting his money’s worth. Without a television deal, ROH just exists in name only and is being thrown out there randomly with no plan or purpose in sight. Owning the video library and rights to all the ROH trademarks is a valuable asset, but Tony definitely hasn’t gotten his money’s worth as of yet.
Do you feel Punk should get any of the blame for the current situation in AEW?
Yes, Punk should get some of the blame because his outburst and rant at the media scum exposed all the dirty little secrets that Tony Khan and AEW didn’t want to be revealed, but the vast majority of the blame has to go to Tony himself for poor management, having the wrong people in power, and trying to be everyone’s friend instead of the boss. AEW is a mess and the majority of the problems are the direct result of incompetence by the powers that be, Tony and the EVPs. Punk may have lit the match, but the powder keg was ready to explode anyways.
Do you think it would help AEW to do a brand split as WWE did? Whether a Dynamite and a Rampage show or an AEW and an ROH show or something? I’m a VERY casual fan of AEW and mostly follow recaps. But it really seems like they have a separate locker room already, between The Elite, Jericho, and their camps and FTR, Moxley, Miro, and such on the other. It’s like they barely even acknowledge each other.
AEW doesn’t have a strong talent roster sufficient to support two brands. There are a few big-name talents, but the vast majority of the bloated roster is unknown to the majority of wrestling fans and quite honestly, is not good enough to carry a brand, be it AEW Dynamite, AEW Rampage, Ring of Honor, or anything else. Plus trying to split up and decide who gets the two-hour show on Wednesday, who gets the hour show on Friday, and who gets sent over to YouTube, there is no way to split up these uneven formats and be fair to all of the talents. AEW needs to do something to step up their game and get better, but a brand split? That’s not the way to go, not in the slightest.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions you may have are very welcome and appreciated. Until the next time, take care and be well, my friends. I’ll see you at the matches.
