I’m not feeling it, but I’m still chugging along. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. Let’s do this.
Cowboy Bob Orton & Don Kernodle versus The Acclaimed. Who wins?
The Acclaimed is a fantastic tag team and have really come a long way in just a short amount of time. They’re creative, young, can cut excellent promos, and are the tag team of the future. Orton and Kernodle were the NWA World Tag Team Champions for a brief time in the early 80s. Orton is also, of course, the father of current WWE legend Randy Orton. This would be a fun match and interesting contrast of styles. Orton and Kernodle would give a great education to their much younger rivals. And the NWA guys would walk out with the win.
Lacey Evans is now using the Cobra Clutch as a finisher. Sgt. Slaughter wants to be her coach/manager. Should WWE put these two together as a team?
It’s an interesting idea, but as much as I love Sarge, he’s not someone that I would use for the modern WWE audience. I could see a vignette where Lacey goes to Sarge for tips about the Cobra Clutch, as well as maybe going to Bill Eadie, wearing the Masked Superstar mask, for the same. But as a character and on TV, I think Evans works better as a solo talent than with any kind of manager/mentor.
Charlotte Flair has expressed interest in wrestling Michelle McCool. Should WWE make this match happen and would you like to see it?
It would be an interesting match, but to be honest, I’ve never been impressed by McCool and the idea of this match does absolutely nothing for me. I’d rather see Charlotte fight Lita again or maybe Victoria instead.
Wouldn’t it be cool to see a coalition of Crockett Promotions, the NWA, and Ted Turner get together and buy the WWE?
It would be cool, but Crockett exists pretty much in name only, Turner is from all reports in bad health, and the NWA, owned by Billy Corgan, doesn’t have nearly the money or experience. Also, the term “too many chiefs” comes to mind. It would never work.
If you could sit under the learning tree of any four people in professional wrestling to learn about the business, who would those people be?
Vince McMahon, Jim Cornette, Paul Heyman, and Ole Anderson. But just not all at the same time.
I am all for suspending disbelief but I find it hard to believe Darby Allin could beat Samoa Joe. Am I wrong?
While it’s possible, kind of, the way it was booked is pretty much bat-shit crazy. In any kind of legit, shoot fight, Joe would destroy Allin. In any kind of fake fight, Joe should destroy Allin. As you said, I’ll be all about suspending my belief when it comes to wrestling as well, but that match and the idea that Allin could take out Joe like that, it’s a tough sell to be sure.
Why do wrestlers stop the beatdown when the music hits? It looks so bad when your about to do something heinous then stop because music hits.
It’s just bad storytelling and lazy booking, nothing more. And I’ve always wondered why the wrestlers have to wait for their music to play to make the save. If my brother or best friend is getting their ass beat, I’m not waiting for a sound engineer to cue up my music before I go running in to save him. It doesn’t make sense in the slightest.
Also, why do wrestlers who are making the save slowly and casually walk to the ring? That makes the bad guy look like an idiot for standing there and makes you look like you don’t care your friend or partner is getting his ass kicked.
See my previous answer. It’s bad storytelling and bad booking. Nothing more.
You’re booking the Royal Rumble and are allowed 5 surprise entrants for each match. Who would you pick?
For the Men’s Rumble, my 5 surprise entrants would be Matt Cardona, Chris Masters, Disco Inferno, Curtis Axel (as Axel Mania), and The Great Muta. For the Women’s Rumble, let’s go with Victoria, Tessa Blanchard, Chelsea Green, Mickie James, and Brandi Rhodes.
Rick Martel versus Sting. Who wins?
My heart and mind both say that Martel is the better wrestler, the most athletic, the more skilled, etc., but there is only one Sting. I have to go with Sting.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. And with that, it’s time to go. Take care my friends and be well. I’ll see you at the matches.
