Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Mark Briscoe, Steve Austin, Vince McMahon & More
January 25, 2023
Have I written anything today? No, I don’t think so. I spent several hours on the phone today dealing with personal matters so everything else has been neglected. Let’s rectify that. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. Let’s do this.
Mt. Rushmore of Female Wrestlers?
For me, it would be The Fabulous Moolah, Sherri Martel, Asuka, and Charlotte Flair.
Mark Briscoe will be making his AEW debut on Wednesday night against Jay Lethal. Thoughts?
It will be interesting to see this match, a tribute to Mark’s brother Jay, is handled on Dynamite. Mark is being allowed to be part of AEW, but as far as I know, AEW will not be happy if Jay is mentioned or his picture is shown often during the match so AEW will be walking on eggs all of Wednesday night. But that being said, I’m glad that Mark is moving on, taking this match, and taking on a long-time friend/rival as part of Dynamite. It should be a good match and I’m sure that Jay will be looking down and smiling.
Ronda Rousey has been pulled from the Royal Rumble event. Thoughts?
I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Ronda in WWE, but her character has gotten stale in WWE over the past year and maybe some adjustments are needed to tweak things and light the fire once more. It’s a shame that she’ll be missing the Rumble match, but it’s probably a necessary evil. After all, if Rousey is part of the Rumble match, how would you get her eliminated, but still keep her strong? She’ll be back before long though, and I expect her to be a part of Mania. We’ll just have to watch and see how this develops.
Two matches that have allegedly been talked about are Steve Austin versus Roman Reigns and Steve Austin versus Brock Lesnar. Would you like to see either of those matches at Wrestlemania?
If this was ten years ago, either of those matches would be fun to see, but at this point and time, they don’t make sense and while Austin might give either Roman or Brock a fight, there is no way to book Austin with a believable win over either man. Use Roman and use Brock against current, younger, active wrestlers. And Steve, if he wrestles at Mania, book him in a match that can be believable and fun to watch. I hope we do see Austin at Mania, but hopefully, his match will be one we can enjoy and not one that leaves everyone shaking their head and let down.
Do you think that Vince McMahon’s recent financial settlement with female referee Rita Chatterton will impact the sale of WWE?
Yes. It’s more publicity and not the good kind for WWE. The rumors and allegations by Chatterton have been hanging over Vince and the WWE for a long time, but the settlement just makes it more public and current news, something a lot of potential buyers or partners will not want to have to deal with or think about. Rumors and allegations are one thing, but by paying millions of dollars as he did, Vince looks guilty as hell. Is he? Only he and Rita know for sure, but his reputation is taking another hit now because of the settlement, something he could barely afford as it was. Will it impact the potential sale of WWE? Hell yeah!
Do you think that Vince McMahon’s return to the WWE could influence if The Rock returns to wrestling or not?
It definitely can be a factor, especially if fresh headlines of Vince paying off an alleged rape victim keep popping up as they currently are. The Rock has a great image in Hollywood and works hard to protect that image. True, he’s always going to be associated with the WWE to a point, but coming back to a match at Wrestlemania isn’t going to hurt that image. Being photographed standing next to an alleged rapist, that’s a whole different story. With HHH the boss and public face of the company, no one will say a word. With Vince as the public face, it’s a whole different story. But all of that being said, I still have a strong gut feeling that we’re going to see The Rock at Wrestlemania in some way, shape, or form. The Rock’s people saying that he needs time to get ready is a swerve in my opinion. We’re talking about Dwayne Johnson. When is he not in the gym or looking jacked as hell? He’s ready, but they just won’t confirm it until the last minute, to capitalize on the buzz and get the hype built properly. Watch and see.
CM Punk & FTR versus Imperium. Who wins?
I am a big fan of Imperium and feel that GUNTHER is a future WWE or Universal Champion. He’s the real deal and a huge star in the making. But in this match, against FTR and CM Punk, with three definite stars already there, I think GUNTHER’s team would have to take the fall. That’s why we have Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci as part of the team. One of them can easily take the fall and no one cares. All the fans would care about is a great match, and this would most definitely be one.
Ric Flair says that he wishes he could redo his last match ever. Thoughts?
I wish it had never happened to start with, but if it was possible to redo it, I agree with Ric. After the career and legacy he’s had, to leave that way as the final match is pretty damn sad. He looked like a 70-plus-year-old man who was having a heart attack. Just a damn shame.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions you may have are welcome and appreciated. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for foreign objects and I’ll see you at the matches.
