Tossing Salt Presents:
WWE Royal Rumble 2023
Thoughts & Predictions
January 27, 2023
Tomorrow night, live on Peacock and the WWE Network, from the Alamo Dome in San Antonio, Texas, is the WWE Royal Rumble event. It’s a big, big show with two Rumble matches, plus three other matches announced. Of course, that means it’s prediction time. Are you ready? I said, ARE YOU READY? Let’s do this.
Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns with Paul Heyman vs. Kevin Owens.
This feud has been fun and it should be a damn good match, but this close to Wrestlemania, there is no way that Roman is losing the belt here. I expect Sami to screw up and appear to be “helping” Kevin at some point and maybe Kevin will have to save Sami from a pissed-off Solo, causing him to lose focus and fall victim to the Tribal Chief. It’s going to get messy and it’s going to be fun to watch, but the actual outcome is not in any doubt.
Winner and STILL WWE Universal Champion: Roman Reigns
30 competitors in Men’s Royal Rumble – Kofi Kingston, Seth Rollins, Bobby Lashley, Austin Theory, Ricochet, Santos Escobar, Cody Rhodes, Omos, Rey Mysterio, GUNTHER, Baron Corbin, Braun Strowman, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, Karrion Kross confirmed. 15 Spots remain.
Cody should win and get the match against Roman at Mania here, but that would be just too damn easy. What if Seth or Lashley wins? How about GUNTHER? What if Brock decides to join the match or even The Rock? There are fifteen spots open as of right now and there are already several people who could easily win, but we have no idea who will be filling out the rest of the match. It’s truly anyone’s ball game. Cody is the most obvious choice, but we still have The Elimination Chamber coming up before Mania so there will be other opportunities for Mr. Rhodes. Let’s throw a big fly into the plans. How about GUNTHER wins?
30 competitors in Women’s Royal Rumble – Liv Morgan, Rhea Ripley, Candice LaRae, Raquel Rodriguez, Shayna Baszler, Zelina Vega, and Emma confirmed. 23 spots remain.
Where is Asuka? Where is Rousey? Where is Becky? Where are the Bellas? How about Ivory? Candice Michelle lives in San Antonio so where is she? It’s hard to make a prediction when less than a third of the wrestlers participating have been announced. Whoever said though that the life of an internet wrestling journalist, whatever that is, was easy. It won’t be Asuka because she’s too awesome and has already won a Women’s Rumble match. Charlotte maybe? Let’s go with the obvious choice.
Winner: Rhea Ripley
WWE Raw Women’s Champion Bianca Belair vs. Alexa Bliss.
I love me some Alexa Bliss and she has been incredible as of late with her bas-ass self, rocking the crazies and being all cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs. But that being said, the big money match for Mania involves Bianca. I don’t see a title change happening here.
Winner and STILL WWE RAW Women’s Champion: Bianca Belair
Bray Wyatt vs. LA Knight – Pitch Black Match. Anything Goes until Pinfall or Submission.
Bray has been back for a while now, with all sorts of weirdness going on. He hasn’t wrestled on any big events or television yet that I can think of. Bray isn’t going to do his first match in almost two years at a big event and walk out with a loss. That’s not going to happen. Maybe Uncle Howdy will help him. Maybe he’ll “fiend out” and set someone on fire. Who knows? LA Knight has looked good and grown on me over the past few months, but it’s time to be taken down a notch or two and this is where that will happen.
Winner: Bray Wyatt
And there you go. I expect we might get a match announced later today for the Kick-Off show, but nothing as of yet. So those are my predictions? What’s yours? Let me know in the comments or drop me a line at Doug28352@yahoo.com and tell me what you’re thinking. Any questions for the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A? Send me those too.
And with that, I’m out of here, my friends. Take care and be well. Watch out for foreign objects and if you’re thrown over the top rope, make sure both feet don’t touch the floor. I’ll see you next time.
