Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Davey Richards, Dream Matches, Magnum TA & More
March 19, 2023

Let’s talk about some wrestling. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. Let’s do this.

Does AEW need a Women’s Tag Team Championship?

Does AEW have enough competent women wrestlers and tag teams to even support a Women’s Tag Team Championship? There are so many titles in AEW already, they are almost meaningless. I would hold off on this one.

Is Ricky Starks a future AEW World Champion?

Starks has it all with looks, speaking ability, and in-ring talent. I can easily see him being a major star for AEW one day, provided he doesn’t get lost in the mix and forgotten about. I would say in regards to being the World Champion one day, it’s a strong possibility.

Davey Richards is denying domestic abuse allegations, but also announced his retirement from professional wrestling. Thoughts?

I don’t know if Richards has actually done anything or not, but in today’s crazy world, even an accusation can destroy a career. I haven’t seen anything about any charges being filed by anyone or even any kind of claims by his wife, even though she was pictured sporting a black eye. This one is crazy and Richards seems to be already blacklisted and presumed guilty, and he’s reacting and jumping the gun about his career and no one knows what’s going on. We’ll just have to wait and see how it all develops.

Curious about who you think was better… Dory Funk or Terry Funk?

Both men were fantastic wrestlers in their day and are amazing talents. I think Terry is a better character and more outgoing than his older brother, but that doesn’t make him better, but just more of a character and outgoing. I’ve met and spoken with Dory before and he was a very polite and friendly guy. Who’s better? I don’t know. They’re both great!

What are your thoughts on Magnum TA?

Magnum was the guy in the mid-80s and the next big thing for Crockett Promotions and the NWA before he got into that infamous car accident and ended his career. He was a good wrestler and had that awesome belly-to-belly suplex as a finisher. He was Dusty’s boy and no doubt, a future NWA World Champion. In all honestly, I wasn’t a big fan of his, with my preferences and support going to Tully, Arn, The Horsemen, etc., but even I knew that Magnum was something special and was destined to be a big star one day. Yes, he was that damn good. It’s true!

Wade Barrett and Michael Cole have been named the permanent commentary team for WWE SmackDown. Do you think Pat McAfee will be back?

I think McAfee will be back when the craziness that is his life slows down a bit and he’s able to find the time. And until then, Smackdown is in good hands with Cole & Barrett at the helm. ‘Nuff said!

Tony Khan announced on Twitter that a “dream match” of Kenny Omega versus El Hijo Del Vikingo will happen on AEW Dynamite this upcoming Wednesday. Is this a “dream match” of yours?

My first response upon seeing this announcement was “Who?”. It’s not a dream match if you don’t know who the people are. And now Tony is throwing this match out with no build, no reason for being, and expects everyone to be excited about it. Apparently, Del Vikingo is a big deal in Mexico, but if you don’t follow Triple AAA Wrestling, how are you supposed to know? Again, I ask, “Who?”. It might be a good match or it might suck, but who has a reason to tune in and watch besides Tony and maybe the three American fans who follow Triple AAA? It’s not a dream match of mine. Not even close. Who?

In their primes, The Rock versus HBK. Who wins?

In their prime, I think the smart money would be on Shawn Michaels. The Rock was electrifying to be sure, but HBK was one of the best for his era.

The Barbarian, The Warlord & Meng w/ Kevin Sullivan versus The New Day. Who wins?

The New Day rocks, but I think in this match, having Kevin Sullivan around would make all the difference. Warlord, Barbarian, and Meng would win.

We have Cody Rhodes, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn fighting the Bloodline. But they are still outnumbered. Who would you pick as a fourth guy to help them?

My first thought was Drew McIntyre, but he’s all wrapped up in the Sheamus/GUNTHER storyline so he’s out for now. Since he was “taken out” of action by Solo a few months ago, my fourth guy for this feud would be the returning Matt Riddle. If they’re going to bring him back, that’s the position to put him, up against the Bloodline. And if they’re not bringing Riddle back anytime soon, how about Madcap Moss? He’s not doing anything important right now so he’d work too.

And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, or any questions are welcome and appreciated. And with that, it’s time to close shop for the day. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for foreign objects and I’ll see you at the matches.
