WWE Roadblock: End of the Line – Thoughts and Predictions
December 18, 2016
We are just a few hours away from the latest WWE offering, live on the WWE Network and also available on pay-per-view if you like to spend extra money that could be used buying Little Jimmy a new pair of shoes and yourself a bottle of Stoli. It’s called WWE Roadblock: End of the Line and it’s coming live from the PPG Paint Arena in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. And of course, that means it’s time to look into the future and make a few calls on what should happen and which WWE Superstars will be taking that walk to the pay window. Are you ready? Let’s do this…
WWE Universal Champion Kevin Owens versus Roman Reigns
Kevin Owens SHOULD NOT lose the title yet! I repeat, Kevin Owens SHOULD NOT lose the title yet. In all of the recent house shows, Kevin and Roman have been headlining and it’s been in competition for Roman’s United States Championship and Roman has been the one getting his arm raised. Is that an indication of what will happen tonight? I surely hope not. I know that Roman is a favorite of Vince McMahon and he’s determined to push Roman down our throats, regardless of whether we like it or not. But the fans prefer Kevin Owens. He’s been used as a cowardly champ so far, but when push comes to shove, he always manages to come through. What I’d do is have a competitive match between the two and have Kevin’s estranged partner, Chris Jericho come out to attempt to screw with Owens and cost him the title, only to have it backfire and ends up hurting Roman instead, thus allowing Kevin to retain and capture the victory. This will build the ongoing problems between Jericho and Owens and move the soon to be feud between the two “best friends” alone. It also allows Roman to still look strong despite not capturing the gold. Someone will be getting involved. Count on that. And Owens will still walk out of the event as the WWE Universal Champion, by hook or by crook. So it is written, so shall it be.
Winner and STILL WWE Universal Champion: Kevin Owens
Raw Women’s Champion Sasha Banks versus Charlotte Flair in a 30 Minute Iron Man Match
I’m kind of torn here. Do they keep the belt on Sasha and allow her a chance to really look strong and build a legacy as the Raw Women’s Champion or do they keep the “undefeated streak” on pay-per-views for Charlotte alive and give her the title once more? I like Charlotte and she reminds me so much of a more athletic, female version of her father back in his younger days. Sasha is just amazing in her own right though and I’d like to see her have more credibility as a long term champ instead of being a multi-transitional champ, as she seems to be now. I just hope they don’t do the vintage “tied at the end and restart the match / overtime” thing. That got old back when Bret / HBK did it and it’s still old now. What the hell. Sasha wins the match and then Charlotte can get it back at Wrestlemania in April. Sounds like a plan to me.
Winner and STILL WWE RAW Women’s Champion: Sasha Banks
WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day versus Sheamus and Cesaro
The New Day has set the record for the longest running WWE Tag Team Champions of all time. Now it’s time to drop the belts and freshen up what has become a rather stale and old act. WWE’s “odd couple” of Sheamus and Cesaro walk out as the new champions.
Winners and NEW WWE Tag Team Champions: Sheamus and Cesaro
WWE Cruiserweight Champion Rich Swann versus Brian Kendrick versus TJ Perkins
I hate watching the WWE play hot potato with the titles and if “205 Live” is ever going to get off the ground correctly and gain a solid place with the WWE Universe, they need to slow things down and allow one man to remain champion and build around that man. While I personally prefer “The Brian Kendrick” for that role, RIch Swann is also a great choice and makes a good champion for the brand. Look for Perkins to do the heel turn and form a friendship or partnership of some sort with Kendrick as things go forward. But alas, their efforts will not succeed and from the jaws of defeat, Swann will walk out with a victory and retain the title.
Winner and STILL WWE Cruiserweight Champion: Rich Swann
Chris Jericho versus Seth Rollins
Seth needs to win here. Seth will moving on to wrestle HHH eventually and compared to the C.O.O. of the company, Jericho should be just a sidenote. Jericho doesn’t need the win and will remain over regardless of the outcome of this match. What I’d expect is that Kevin Owens will come down and attempt to “help” his BFF, which of course will backfire and allow Seth to get the pin and victory. Jericho will be livid and that’ll lead to my prediction for the main event where Jericho will come down to cost Owens his match, but that will backfire too and Kevin will manage to win. Keep the storyline and back and forth between Jeric-KO going at all costs. Works for me.
Winner: Seth Rollins
Sami Zayn versus Braun Strowman
They have ten minutes for Zayn to prove he can survive the power that is Braun Strowman. Let’s make it clear here. Zayn will NOT beat Strowman. Zayn will spend the entire match getting the snot beat out of him and taking a major beating from corner to corner. But much like Tommy Dreamer back in the early days of ECW, Zayn will keep getting up and keep fighting. He won’t stop or back down. “Excuse me Sir, may I have another?” They’ll go the ten minutes and it will officially be a draw. Yep, so there you go. Wait a moment? A draw? In 2016? Nope, that won’t happen. Zayn will keep fighting and keep coming back, but around the nine-minute point, Strowman will finally manage to get the pin and end the match.
Winner: Braun Strowman
Rusev versus Big Cass in the Kickoff Show Match
This match should be on the main card and not the Kickoff Show, but whatever. Look for Enzo to kiss Lana or at least make his presence felt and cause a distraction. Rusev will be kicked in the face and Big Cass will get the win, as it should be. ‘Nuff said!
Winner: Big Cass
And there you go with my predictions. Am I right? Am I wrong? I don’t know, but we’ll find out tonight. And with that, I’m out of here. I have to make a trip to Wal-Mart and go run a few errands for now so I’ll be finished in time to watch the show tonight. Thanks for reading and I’ll catch you on the flip side. I’m Doug, I’m down and I’m gone.
