Wrestling Fact or Fiction – June 25, 2017

Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Fact or Fiction
June 25, 2017

Well, I tried to sleep. I really, really did. My eyes were heavy and the bed was so comfortable. My fan was blowing and I could feel the darkness of peaceful slumber begin to overtake me… and then my eyes popped open. My mind was going a million miles a second, over a thousand different scenarios. And I knew then, it was time to get up. Sleep would not be visiting me tonight. So here I am now, at nearly 3:00 in the AM, sitting in front of the computer. The sounds of Sammy Davis Jr. are blasting through my earphones. And I’ve got wrestling on the mind. It’s time to do that weekly “Wrestling Fact or Fiction” thing. And since I’m already up, it may as well be now.

As per usual, the questions that I’m commenting on come from my good, close and personal friends that I’ve never met in my life, over at 411mania.com/wrestling. And the answers and statements, deciding if I agree (fact) or not (fiction) come from me. Are you ready to do this? I am so…

1. You have no issue with how Carmella won MITB.

FACT: I thought it was a great move that instantly transformed Carmella from an afterthought to a top star in the Smackdown Women’s Divsion. So what if Ellsworth climbed the ladder and tossed the briefcase to Carmella. Everyone admits that it’s not against the rules, since there are essentially no rules in a ladder match, and even if it was, so what? Carmella and James Ellsworth are heels and they did the ultimate heel move. Good for them.

2. WWE made the right call by having Mike & Maria Kanellis skip NXT.

FACT: Maria and Mike Bennett don’t need to do the NXT routine. Maria spent many years as part of the WWE and is well aware of all of the finer details of what is expected on the main roster. The WWE fans already know her too and she’s too recognizable a character for WWE to waste in the minor leagues. Most new additions to the WWE roster should go through NXT first. I agree with that, but there are exceptions to every rule. Maria and Mike are the exceptions.

3. The build to Brock Lesnar vs. Samoa Joe has been excellent.

FACT: Brock looks like a monster, as usual. Joe looks like a monster too who can really take Brock to the limit. It’s really being built really well as a match between two men who are truly dangerous and ready to fight. Nothing can be taken for granted here, except for it should be a brutal and very physical brawl and one helluva match. For this match, the WWE has finally done everything right.

4. While Raw’s angle, featuring Big Cass turning heel on Enzo was really good, it leaves the Raw tag team division in shambles.

FICTION: While this angle takes Cass and Enzo from the mix, we still have The Hardys, the Champions in Cesaro & Sheamus, Anderson and Gallows, The Revival, The Titus Brand, Slater & Rhyno and possibly even Bo Dallas & Curtis Axel under the direction of the Miz. Looks like plenty of tag teams to me.

5. You are 100% behind Shelton Benjamin returning to WWE.

FACT: Why not. He’s a damn good wrestler, an instant top mid-card level star who can work face or heel, and someone who can have a great match against almost anyone. This is a no-brainer. If he comes back, it’d be awesome.

6. After a short feud with Big Cass, WWE should move Enzo to 205 Live.

FICTION: Enzo’s biggest talent is his mouth. He could go to 205 Live, but I don’t really see his in-ring ability or character really mixing well with the other Cruiserweights on Tuesday night. He could be better used as either a spokesman or manager for another wrestler or maybe as part of a new tag team to work the mid-card. Maybe even use Enzo as an announcer or give him a talk-show type segment. They’ll hopefully figure out something for the “Certified G and Bonifide Stud”, but I don’t think that 205 LIve should be or will be it.

And that’s all for now. I think I’m going to go watch a movie now or something. The new GLOW series is on Netflix and I want to see it so that’s probably what I’m going to do next. As for this, thanks for reading. Questions and comments are welcome and appreciated. And with that, I am gone. Have a great night and I’ll catch you on the flip side. Have a great one.
