Tossing Salt Presents:
WWE Clash of Champions 2017
Thoughts & Predictions
December 16, 2017
World Wrestling Entertainment will present the 2017 Clash of Champions PPV from Boston, MA this Sunday 12/17/17. And naturally, that means it’s prediction time. Let’s jump right to it, shall we?
WWE champion AJ Styles vs. Jinder Mahal.
I would love to see Jinder get the opportunity to have one more run as the WWE Champion and get his belt back from AJ Styles, but I just don’t see it happening unless it’s a short run to set things up for the Royal Rumble. AJ is a great champion and I can see WWE keeping the strap on him at least until Wrestlemania. That’s how logic goes and how I’d book it, but then again, I like to see surprises and maybe WWE will surprise me. Let’s have Jinder, with the help of his flunkies, cheat and steal a win. After all, no one expects Jinder to win and it’d be a great swerve.
Winner and NEW WWE Champion: Jinder Mahal.
WWE Smackdown Tag Team champions The Usos vs. New Day vs. Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin vs. Aiden English & Rusev.
The Usos are pretty much awesome and dominating the tag team scene on Smackdown so in a one on one match, they’re going to keep a stranglehold on those belts. But I’m thinking another title change here, just for whatever reasons. It won’t be New Day since they don’t need the belts and are getting, in my opinion, stale. Gable and Shelton? Maybe, but I think that since Sunday is Rusev Day, we’ll see a surprise upset and Aiden will be singing some solid gold. Look for the odd couple of English and Rusev to take home some gold on Sunday night.
Winners and NEW Champions: Rusev & Aiden English
Lumberjack Match: WWE Smackdown Women’s champion Charlotte Flair vs. Natalya.
I don’t think that Charlotte will hold on to the title very long here, but is Natayla the one to take the belt off of her? I love Nattie and think she’s incredible, but her last run was kind of ‘eh at best. Look for craziness, chaos and a total cluster of a match. Dare I get all vintage and say it? It’ll be OINGO BOINGO from bell to bell. And in the craziness, it’ll either be ruled a no-contest or else Charlotte wins. Since she’s a Flair, let’s give a big “Woooooo!”.
Winner and STILL Smackdown Women’s Champion: Charlotte
WWE United States champion Baron Corbin vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Bobby Roode.
Baron really hasn’t had much time or opportunity to prove himself yet as the United States Champion and even though I think that having Bobby Roode capture the title, his first piece of WWE main roster gold, would be indeed “Glorious”, it’s not time to happen yet. Dolph can never be underestimated or forgotten about since he’s always lurking and ready to steal a win or a title and even though he’s been buried lately, he’s capable of jumping right back into the title scene at any moment. Actually, I like that idea and though it wouldn’t really be fair to Corbin, it makes sense in a Dolphy sort of way.
WInner and NEW United States Champion: Dolph Ziggler
Randy Orton & Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Kevin Owens & Sami Zayn with Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan as guest referees. If Zayn and Owens lose, they are fired from WWE.
Let’s make this perfectly clear from the start. Kevin and Sami are not going anywhere. The only question for this match is how do they make them “lose”, but still not “lose” and be fired. We can have Orton or Sninsuke “accidentially hit” Shane or Bryan and cause a DQ finish which would make Owens and Sami the winners, but not really a clean win. We can have Bryan “turn heel” and give a fast count or do something to steal a win for Sami and Kevin and allow them to stay. Or we can have the vintage finish where Orton pins Sami and Kevin pins Nakamura at the same time with both referees making counts at the same time and thus, the stipulation is negated. Or we can just have Vince come out and say that no one is getting fired and Shane has overstepped his authority. So many options here. I think we’ll go with the one where Bryan counts the pin on either Orton or Shinsuke and Kevin and Sami get the win. Shane thinks it’s a “fast count” and they deal with the consequences on Smackdown. But regardless of that, Kevin and Sami win and are not “fired”.
Winners: Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn
The Bludgeon Brothers vs. Breezango.
I would love to see Breezango win. I’d also love to see Harper and Rowan drop this gimmick and just be the bad-ass team of Harper and Rowan and get a big push. Breezango is a really fun team and I can see a big push coming up in their futures, but Harper and Rowan are killer jobbers on Smackdown and are the new “monster flavor of the week”. It’s too early for them to start losing.
WInners: The Bludgeon Brothers (Luke Harper and Erick Rowan)
Mojo Rawley vs. Zack Ryder. (Kickoff Show)
I’m looking forward to this one since Zack is always one of my favorite guys and I think Mojo has a tremendous upside to him and will be a solid player one day. I do think that they went the wrong direction here with Mojo turning heel instead of Zack. Zack has always been the goofy, lovable and somewhat brain dead face for so long, I think a change where he grows a set, gets ruthless and just has a total attitude change would do wonders for his career. But that being said, I’m sure that we’ll get the same old with Zack trying to “make peace” with his former partner and being all gulliable and Mojo taking advantage and cleaning Zack’s clock in a squash. I hate it, but this is WWE and we’re talking about Zack here and that’s what they do.
Winner: Mojo Rawley
And with that, I’m through. What do you think? Am I right? Am I wrong? What are your predictions? Let me know and tell me what you think. And now, I’m down and gone. Time to go get ready for work. Until the next time, take care and be safe. Have a great one.
