Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Fact or Fiction
January 7, 2018
Are you ready for a bit of that “Fact or Fiction” stuff, wrestling style? It’s Sunday night and it was 14 degrees outside the last time I looked. And the Carolina Panthers lost to New Orleans earlier tonight as well. It almost makes me want to start throwing monkey feces. That is a sick and disgusting thought. Glad I said “almost” instead of actually doing it. I’m really not in the mood to do this tonight. I’d much rather be snuggling up to my sweet baboo. Too bad that person doesn’t exist, so “Wrestling Fact or Fiction” it is. The questions come from my friends at 411mania.com/wrestling. And the answers and opinions that follow, that’s just your boy, Rapper Salty D. Film at 11:00. Let’s do this…
1. Elias has been the biggest NXT main roster success story of 2017.
FICTION: While Elias has done well on Monday nights and is a true pleasure to watch perform, both pre-match and in the ring, can we truly call him the best success story from NXT on the main roster? Well, maybe we can, but I’m sure a man named Samoa Joe might not agree. Has Elias wrestled against Brock Lesnar in the main event of a pay-per-view yet or beaten up Roman Reigns? I am a fan of Elias and think he’s going to do well in his time with the WWE, but the biggest success story? Nah, I don’t think so.
2. John Cena Sr. is correct, the Woken Matt Character won’t work in WWE.
FICTION: So long as Matt Hardy remains inspired, he’ll make it work. It is getting over and standing out from the rest of the WWE in many ways and while I can’t see “Woken Matt” contending for the WWE or Universal Championship at Wrestlemania, I can see the “Woken” character and all that comes with it as a solid, WWE mainstay for many years to come. Much like Goldust and that iconic character, the “Woken Universe” can have a distinct role in the WWE Universe, be played as either serious or comedic as the situation demands it and really put Matt, Jeff and the entire Hardy household in a top spot for years to come.
3. Who is your pick, as of today, to win the men’s, Royal Rumble?
The more I think about it, it would fantastic to see Daniel Bryan enter himself at #30, as a surprise and end up winning to face AJ Styles at Wrestlemania. We’d be assured a great match between two iconic legends and definitely main event worthy for the show. Another strong possibility is having John Cena win and then go on to face AJ to see if Cena can win his “17th World Championship” and break the tie he currently shares with Ric Flair. Both possibilities are strong and would result with some great stories to be told at Wrestlemania. But I don’t think it will be Cena. I don’t think it will be Bryan. I don’t think it will be Roman Reigns, although I do think he’ll be fighting Brock at Wrestlemania. So who is my pick, as of today? I think I’ll go with Finn Balor as the victor (choice subject to change, of course.)
4. WWE should run with Balor, Anderson, & Gallows as a trio since they seemingly have nothing to do for any of them.
FACT: The three are legit friends and have a legit wrestling history together as well so why not? At this point, it sure as hell can’t hurt.
5. Jinder Mahal SHOULD win the US Title tournament on Smackdown.
FACT: If Jinder doesn’t do something soon after failing to win back the WWE Championship from AJ Styles, he in dangerous territory and likely to get the “Swagger Treatment” as a failed effort by WWE, something he doesn’t deserve at all. He needs a big moment and something to make a huge impact to secure his spot near the top of the card and the United States Championship would be a great way to make it happen. He and Bobby Roode could feud over the title and do some back and forth switches if necessary. Jinder is in a delicate spot right now and needs to be kept strong. He should be the next U.S. Champion.
6. Who is your pick, as of today, to win the women’s, Royal Rumble?
It should be Asuka. Every sign points to Asuka. But with that thought in mind, it won’t be Asuka. Can you imagine maybe seeing Ronda Rousey coming out and causing Asuka to be eliminated from the Rumbe? Then we get Asuka versus Rousey at Wrestlemania. Definitely a worthy match, don’t you think? So who then is going for the gold? I think Paige winning and then challenging Alexa is the way to go here. So yes, Paige is my pick at the moment, subject to change of course.
And there you go. Thanks for reading. Thoughts and comments and all feedback is welcome and appreciated. Talk at me, my Peeps. And now, I’m out of here or as the great Baron Von Raschke would say, “Dat’ is all de’ people need to know!”. Have a great one and stay warm. It’s cold out there.
