Tossing Salt Presents:
Music Fact or Fiction
January 20, 2018
It’s a lovely Saturday afternoon and I don’t want to do anything. It’s the perfect day to be lazy and just enjoy the quiet and sunlight and warmer weather. Not that I have a choice since I don’t really have anyone to chill with and it’s my weekend off so there’s no work to worry about either. I hate girlfriends. I just need myself a good boyfriend. *sighs* Let’s do the Fact or Fiction thing, music version. The questions come from my friends over at 411mania.com/music. And I’m doing the rest of it. Let’s get busy.
You have no interest in a new album from Dave Matthews Band.
FACT: They’re okay and the music is generally good, but it’s been how long since they’ve been relevant? The Dave Matthews band is just one of those bands that has always just kind of been there. They have a hit every so often, but there is nothing really special or spectacular about them. They’re just here. I might give their new music a listen if I happen to stumble across it, but I seriously doubt I’ll be seeking it out.
It’s a bad idea for Jay-Z to use the character of Jaybo on merchandise.
FICTION: It could easily go either way depending on how the Jaybo character is received and the marketing, but on the surface, it’s Jay-Z expanding his marketability and image and increasing his image in the mainstream public while bringing in more revenue. It might work out well or it might be a total disaster, but Jay-Z won’t know until he gives it a try.
A new Spinal Tap album is exciting.
FACT: They were a great spoof / parody band that made some fantastic music in their own right and honestly, I’m surprised that they’re still alive, much less making music. But given that they are still alive and kicking and ready to parody the hell out of what passes for music these days, I’m actually kind of excited to see what they come up with. It should be good.
Howard Stern is a good choice to induct Bon Jovi into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.
FACT: Stern was the band’s pick so that’s all the reason anyone needs. Plus he’s had a long career in radio and is a long time fan and friend of the band and that’s the icing on the cake. Wouldn’t be my choice most likely, but I’m not making the call. Bon Jovi is and they want him so there you go.
The documentary about Johnny Cash’s Folsom Prison concert is a must-watch.
FACT: Anything that involves Johnny Cash and especially something as big and important a moment as the Folsom Prison concert, it has to be seen and enjoyed. It’s Cash. ‘Nuff said!
You enjoyed the video for Taylor Swift’s “End Game.”
FICTION: It has over 50 million views on YouTube so some folks must like it, but I watched and it was just “eh” at most. It starts off like a movie and then goes all, I don’t know, hip hop wanna be with the video and images. It’s okay for some folks, but I think Taylor Swift and this comes across as over-kill and too much. It just seems like she’s trying too hard to be something she’s not and she is so far out of her element, it’s not even funny. I’m not impressed.
And there you go. Thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Let me know what you think. And now, I think I’m going for a walk so I can enjoy this weather. Until the next time, take it light. Have a great one.
