Music Fact or Fiction

It’s a wet Sunday morning here in the ‘Burg and it’s far too early for any sane person who doesn’t have to be awake to be up. And of course, I’m wide awake. That means I can either stay in bed and toss and turn, staring at the ceiling fan or else come in here to the computer and do some catching up and writing. No one else is awake yet so I’ll take advantage of the peace and quiet and do the latter. A lot of things are on the agenda for today, including the 2018 Royal Rumble tonight. But that’s tonight and that’s wrestling stuff. Right now, let’s focus on some music stuff. It’s the Fact or Fiction thingy, music edition, for the week. The questions come from my friends over at 411mania.com/music. I’m providing the rest of it. Let’s just hop to it and get busy. And away we go…

It was the right time for Slayer to end their run.

FACT: I don’t know their reasoning behind the decision to end the band, but if the band thinks that now is the time to call it a day, so be it. They would know better than anyone on the outside looking in as to what, after a great and long run as one of the top metal bands of all time, if there is anything left or not. It’s their call to make and whatever they decide, be it retirement or a break and changing their minds in two years, so be it.

Johnny Depp would be a good addition to Marilyn Manson’s band.

FICTION: Johnny Depp is actually a good musician, but would he be a good fit with Marilyn Manson? I don’t really think so. Working with Alice Cooper and Joe Perry as part of the Hollywood Vampires was fine because Alice and Perry don’t mind sharing the spotlight and are secure in their legacies so if an actor wants to play with them, so be it. I just don’t see Manson as one that would be happy to share the spotlight and possibly even be overshadowed by a member of his band, even if it is Johnny Depp. And I can’t see Depp being content or happy in a long term scenario as the second banana in another guy’s band. If it’s a temporary thing, for a few months or so, it might be okay, but as a long term situation, it won’t work. Plus Depp needs to get his Hollyweird mojo back and go make some good movies again. Forget politics and keep the music gig as a side project for every so often, but making great pictures in Hollyweird is his calling and what he should be focused on in my opinion. Just saying.

You’re not a fan of Lil Wayne’s new song “Big Bad Wolf.”

FACT: I’m not much of a fan of anything that Lil’ Wayne does to be honest. Some of his early stuff is listenable and fairly okay, but it’s not my favorite genre of music and Lil’ Wayne is not someone that I have much use for. I did go and listen to “Big Bad Wolf” on YouTube and well, I lasted about 30 seconds and well, it totally sucked in my opinion. I could care less and it sounds like gibberish to me. Oh wait, it’s Lil’ Wayne and it’s all just crap anyhow.

You’re interested in new music from Christina Aguilera.

FICTION: Honestly, I had forgotten all about her and that she even exists. She was a big star a decade or so ago and just kind of vanished. And she’s back? Yawn! If she makes something new and it’s good and makes her base happy, so be it. More power to her. I’m not into her though and whatever.

Drake’s new EP “Scary Hours” was solid.

FACT: Solid is a good way to describe it. I’m not a big Drake fan and won’t be listening or buying it. It’s Drake and I’m sure that the songs will be good and the music okay, at least well enough to make his base happy. I’ve read mixed reviews on different sites and some love it and others didn’t like it quite so much. Whatever. It’s all a matter of taste and what someone likes. But it’s a good effort by Drake and it’ll do well enough and sell. That’s really all that matters.

And I guess that’s all of this for now. Thanks for reading. Questions and comments are welcome and appreciated. Until the next time, have a great one. Love you!
