Another flashback from five years ago. Looking at the book, “Fifty Shades of Grey”, which has of course since been made in a movie series. I remember this and those books very well…
Thirty (More) Days of Dougie – Part 4: Shades of Grey
So let’s just jump right to it, shall we? Sounds like a plan…
Thirty (More) Days Of Dougie – Part 4: Shades Of Grey
Right now, I am currently reading (and am about 3/4 through) with the book, “Fifty Shades of Grey”. I have the other two books, “Fifty Shades Darker” and “Fifty Shades Freed” sitting right here waiting for me to read as well and though it started off slowly, it’s getting more and more interesting and better with each and every page. The two principal characters, Christian Grey and Ana are well thought out, extremely deep and just fun to read. And there’s a strong cast of supporting characters too, but the main focus for the first book at least, stays entirely on Christian and Ana, as it should.
Well, that and sex. Lots and lots of sex.
It’s not the explicit detailed sexual stuff that you read about in Penthouse Letters or anything like that, but it’s just explicit enough to stimulate the imagination and keep the reader intrigued. I guess that’s a good thing if a book wants to achieve mainstream publicity and sales, as this one definitely has. Kudos to author E L James for that.
Have no doubts. This book is very sexually explicit and takes the readers along with Ana and Christian into areas that most probably have never seriously thought about or given heed. I’m talking the world of bondage, S&M and just total, absolute control. It’s a scary place to venture, but at the same time, fascinating and exciting. I don’t think I’m giving anything away when I say that Christian’s character is a total control freak in every shape and form. Reminds me of a couple of people I know actually. Well, not entirely like them, but how they’d like to be and try to be… lol
The sex is there, but overall, the book is mainly control (at least thus far) and about one’s life being taken over (at least in the physical, sexual sense) by someone else. Being their sexual surrogate and letting that other person use and abuse to his heart’s content. And I’m reading all of this and I’m probably like 90% of the other readers, saying to myself that “I would never let anyone do those things to me”, but at the same time thinking, “that would be exciting to try”. Hell, I’ll admit it. I’m becoming more and more fascinated and curious as each page passes.
Some of the things like fisting would definitely never happen, but the handcuffs, the tying up, the blindfolds, etc. Some of the stuff could be very exciting and fun (with the right person of course). There would have to be some major trust going on, but it’s a fascinating area of exploration. I think that down deep, we all have a wish and desire to be dominated and controlled, at least a little bit. We all wish that we had a “Christian Grey” somewhere in our lives.
The books, thus far, are good. They’re not for kids, but if any adults want to give some thought to the wild side of bedroom matters, this might be a good way to stimulate conversation and the senses in that direction.
I think I need to find myself my own “Christian Grey”, at least for one night or weekend. It could be fun. Anyone interested? Hmmm!
Go read the books. You’ll be glad you did.
