Music Fact or Fiction – February 10, 2018

Tossing Salt Presents:
Music Fact or Fiction
February 10, 2018

Welcome to the weekly music buzz that is Fact or Fiction. It’s way too early to be up on a Saturday morning, but I have to go sell some adult spirits to the masses in just a little bit and they set the hours, not I. So how is everyone. I want to go back to bed… and cuddle. But I can’t so I’ll do this instead. The questions and statements come from my pals over at And I’m the man with the opinions. Let’s get busy and do this. Maybe we’ll cuddle afterwards. We’ll see…

John Mellencamp’s induction is way overdue.

FACT: Mellencamp is being inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame and yes, it is way overdue. Even though he might not have the recognition that folks like Dylan or McCartney have as a songwriter, his music has rarely let us down and the man has written some very good and memorable songs over the length of his career. Congrats to the man for this honor, one that is very well deserved.

Justin Timberlake’s Super Bowl halftime show was disappointing.

FACT: I’m not trashing Justin because I think he’s a great entertainer and always gives 150% in every performance, but there were audio issues where the back-up singers drowned his vocals out and then there was the problems with the Prince hologram. It wasn’t Justin’s fault, but mainly technical problems that caused issues and that ended up making the show less than stellar.

You’re not a fan of Rita Ora and Liam Payne’s song “For You.”

FACT: I went and listened and this song is just kind of there, totally forgettable and just kind of bleh. I understand that it’s on the Fifty Shades soundtrack, but it’s as boring as the movies. The books, I liked and even did a review a few years ago, which is up on my page. Go find it. Read it. (The review, not the books although they’re decent too). As for this song, forget about it. Not worth the time to waste listening to again.

A Perfect Circle’s “TalkTalk” was an interesting new song from them.

FACT: I went and listened this morning and I like this. It’s moody, but kind of catchy and stays with you in a thoughtful and meaningful way without totally OINGO BOINGOing out the mind. Good stuff.

Pink did a great job performing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl.

FACT: She had the flu and still went out there and totally nailed it. The woman can freakin’ sing and did a great job.

Natalie Portman’s SNL rap was hilarious.

FICTION: Does anyone even still watch SNL anymore? I didn’t even know about this until this morning and had to go look Portman’s rap up on YouTube. And well, I wasn’t all that impressed. Just kind of there, like 89% of the stuff on SNL these days. Every once in a while, they do something right and funny, but most of it is just bash Trump or moronic stupidity. I guess they (and Portman) have their fans, but I’m not really one of them these days.

And there you go. Thank you for reading. Comments, thoughts and any feedback is welcome and appreciated. Until the next time, take care and be safe. Love you – mean it.
