Tossing Salt Presents:
Music Fact or Fiction
April 15, 2018
And now it’s time to sing a song, dance a dance and talk about all things pop culture and music. Well, not all things, but six things that have been selected by my long time close and personal friends over at 411mania.com/music. It’s “Fact or Fiction” time, the music edition. They make the statements and I decide if it’s correct, not correct or just plain gibberish and then explain why. Let’s do this…
It’s disappointing that Lindsey Buckingham is no longer with Fleetwood Mac.
FICTION: To be honest, I thought that he had left Fleetwood Mac a long time ago. And does anyone even really care anymore? It’s a big blow to the band, but then again, when is the last time they made a new album or toured or anything anyways? Everyone in the band, it seems, has left at some point. Lindsey had a good solo run. Stevie Nicks is all over the place and had a good solo run. And then, when it matters, they always come back and do what they need to do with the band. He’s gone for now, but does anyone really think it’s a permanent thing? And so what if it is? Fleetwood Mac will continue and move on, regardless of who the players and band members are. One person, at this point, doesn’t really make a difference.
You enjoyed Janelle Monae’s video for “Pynk.”
FACT: I have no idea who Janelle Monae is and what “Pynk” was about so I had to go YouTube it. And while it’s not my particular favorite of style, I didn’t hate it. It’s actually kind of decent so yes, I guess that counts as an “enjoy” from me. Close enough anyhow.
Kesha’s track “I Need A Woman to Love” is solid.
FACT: Kesha is channeling her inner Janis Joplin here and the effort is strong. It’s a good and solid track and while not what I’d be expecting from Kesha, I found myself liking it and listened to it not only once, but twice. So is it “solid”? Yes, I would say so.
The upcoming System of a Down tour will lead to a new album.
FACT: Usually when a band reunites for a tour, even if they’re all hating each other and just doing it for the money, the creative juices will start to flow and if the tour is any kind of a success, an album eventually follows. I know that the folks from SOAD have said no album is currently in the works, but people change their minds and I think that possibly SOAD will too.
Kid Rock did well with his WWE Hall of Fame speech.
FACT: Rock kept it short, put over the company and the wrestlers, seemed gracious, was funny and dedicated it to Joe C. I think he did a fine job.
The Spotify/Hulu partnership is a great move for both companies.
FACT: Package deals are the future of the streaming businesses and with this, you get both Hulu and Spotify for one price instead of paying two charges. It’s a good deal that some may fuss about, but I think will be successful and profitable for both companies.
And this is where it ends. Thanks for reading. Thoughts, comments and any questions are welcome. Until the next time, take care. I’ll catch you later.
