Tossing Salt Presents:
Music Fact Or Fiction
June 23, 2018
Welcome to the weekend and it’s time to do that Fact or Fiction thing. It’s all about the music and the sounds that make our heart go pitter-patter or want to stop, one extreme or the other. Time is short and I should be getting ready for that work thing (an eleven hour day today, oh vey), but I’m going to see how quickly I can pound this out first. (Insert masturbation joke here.) The statements come from my good friends over at 411mania.com/music. The opinions that follow are mine and mine alone. Let’s do this…
1. You enjoyed the Jay-Z and Beyonce joint LP.
FACT: I’m not a fan of either to be honest, but the few tracks that I have listened to via the YouTube have been solid and decent enough and all of the reviews that I’ve read thus far have been pretty solid and that has to count for something as well. I won’t be going out and buying the CD, but if it comes up in my YouTube feed, I won’t click past their stuff and move on to the next track immediately either. It’s a good effort by the two mega-stars.
2. Drake’s video for “I’m Upset” was enjoyable.
FICTION: I went and watched and while it’s not awful, it’s nothing memorable or all that either. It just… is. Not a big Drake guy here and he’s pretty much over-rated in my opinion, a good singer and some good stuff, but nothing totally outstanding or must listen to or see in my eyes. I’ll pass on this video and song.
3. Christina Aguilera’s Liberation was solid.
FACT: Solid is a good word to describe it. I’m not a big Aguilera fan (do I even like anyone new since 1985?), but the tracks I’ve heard are good enough and if you like her music, you should like this album. It’s a good set of songs for her and a good showcase of her talents. Just not necessarily my thing, but definitely something she should be happy and proud of.
4.Prince’s heirs likely won’t get their wish for the Estate to back out of the TIDAL deal.
FACT: I’m not totally up on this situation, but I think that the estate and the lawyers probably have a better idea of Prince’s estate than the heirs do and know the in’s and out’s of this deal well enough to keep honoring it. It just seems that the heirs are trying to do a money grab on the streaming service and that the estate is more level headed keeping track of business. But then again, I’m just speculating.
5. Florence and the Machine’s new track “Big God” was decent.
FACT: I wasn’t even sure who Florence and the Machine were until I saw this question, but I went and listened to the track and it’s good. I like it and will probably be back to listen to more of their music when I have the time. A very good song.
6. It’s not surprising Jay-Z turned down an offer for the Super bowl halftime show.
FACT: Nothing that Jay-Z does surprises me, but given his history of criticizing the NFL and more specifically their “Anthem policy”, it would have been highly hypocritical to step in and take their money and do the show. He doesn’t need the money or publicity and he actually seems to have some standards and dignity so this was probably the best and most logical move for him to make.
And there you go. Thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts and any questions are welcome and appreciated. And now, off to work. Until the next time, I loves ya. Have a great one.
