Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Fact or Fiction
July 1, 2018
Rest In Peace Matt Cappotelli…
Welcome to another edition of that Fact or Fiction thing that we love to do around these here parts. This is the bread & butter of the site and what Ted Turner would call that “rasslin’ business” edition. The questions are from the fine folks over at 411mania.com/wrestling. I’ve got the opinions and answers. So are you ready? No time for chit chat. Let’s just take it home and do this…
1. WWE will sign Rey Mysterio prior to his appearance at All In.
FICTION: While I do think that Rey will end up being back with the WWE later this year, even though in my opinion they don’t need him and it’s more a case of just throwing money at a former star because they are a former star rather than working to develop new characters and stars. But Rey has signed to and agreed to work the “All In” show and I don’t think that he’s the type to pull out of the event to go to WWE, but will rather work the event and his other prior agreements before heading back to the “Land of Giants” that is McMahon. I’m pretty sure an agreement is already in place with WWE, hence the big announcement about Rey being a playable character on the upcoming video game, but Rey has to finish up his committments first before he actually shows up on WWE TV again.
2. Sanity losing their first trios match on Smackdown was a poor booking decision.
FACT: A group gets all of this build and has this killer reputation, but then loses the first time out? Even if it is against Jeff Hardy and The Usos, it’s Bad Booking 101 and while it won’t totally destroy the Sanity build, it will sure make things harder to them to be considered a top team and threat to anyone. Bad call by the WWE on this.
3. Eli Drake re-signing with Impact Wrestling was the right decision.
FACT: At Impact, Eli Drake is getting an opportunity to really strut his stuff and be a big name player that matters. If he was to leave Impact and head to the WWE, the money would probably be better, but he’d be just one among many and end up getting lost in the shuffle. He’d be just another guy. For the time being, the re-signing with Impact was definitely the better career move.
4. Shinsuke Nakamura’s WWE run has been a failure so far.
FICTION: While it hasn’t been totally ideal, Shinsuke’s time in WWE hasn’t been all that bad. He has been the NXT Champion, wrestled at Wrestlemania for the WWE Championship and won the Royal Rumble. That’s not too shabby for anyone. I really didn’t expect WWE to be able to use a performer like Nakamura correctly and for the most part, they haven’t. The recent heel turn was a good move though and I’m sure that Shinsuke is enjoying himself and probably making more money now than ever before so what’s to complain about. It could be much worse. He could be booked like Titus O’Neill or No Way Jose instead.
5. WWE working with Pro Wrestling NOAH is the first step towards WWE starting NXT Japan.
FACT: We all know that Triple H is plotting world domination in the professional wrestling / sports-entertainment business. Vince won the United States. HHH wants the world and as Stewie Griffin would say, “Victory will be mine!”. First it was the United Kingdom and now, it’s Japan. Working with NOAH is a great way to get a foot into the door and insure success.
6. You are 100% behind the Team Hell No reunion.
FACT: For the time being, what else is there for Bryan to do while waiting for the long anticipated feud with The Miz to come to a head? Kane is still popular with the WWE fans and this gives him one last run before he heads off to do the Mayor of Knoxville politics thing. It keeps Bryan in a top spot, yet away from the WWE title picture until WWE is sure that he is going to re-sign with the company when his deal expires and that he’s able to handle the in-ring action without any more injuries. And finally, it gives the team of Harper and Rowan some legit competition that’s not named Usos or New Day. Everyone wins and everyone is happy. YES! YES! YES!
And that, my friends, is all for this edition. I’ve a few messages to return and calls to make so I’m down and gone and out of here. Questions, comments and anything else is welcome and appreciated. Until the next time, take it easy and stay safe. Loves ya – mean it.
