Tossing Salt Presents:
WWE Super Show-Down
Thoughts & Predictions
October 4, 2018
Coming up this Saturday, live on the WWE Network from the Melbourne Cricket Ground in Australia, it’s WWE Super Show-Down. While some have referred to this event as a glorified house show, the card is stacked to the max and features the return of HHH and The Undertaker as well as defenses of the WWE Championship and the Smackdown Women’s and Tag Team Championships. It’s a huge event for the WWE and as such, that means it’s time to break out the “Sister Cleo” outfit, talk with the fake accent and use the cards to tell the future as I see it. In other words, prediction time. Let’s do this…
The Undertaker with Kane vs. Triple H with Shawn Michaels for the “last time ever.”
Do we really think this will be the last time we see HHH and The Undertaker face each other in a WWE ring? Unless there is a major injury on the part of one man or the other, this is all a build to bringing back HBK to the ring again for one last match, probably at Wrestlemania against The Undertaker. Have this match and everyone gets involved so we move to a tag team match at the Royal Rumble and then the payoff as HBK and Taker go one more (last) time at the big show in April. This should be an interesting match, but I expect that HHH will have to carry most of the match depending upon how much truly that Taker has left in the tank. We know HHH can still go, but the Dead Man? That’s why Kane and HBK are there, to provide the smoke & mirrors for the event and to make it a “happening” instead of a solid back and forth match. HHH can afford to lose and it won’t hurt him a bit. If Taker loses, then I think the mystique and legend will truly end up resting in peace. Look for chaos by HBK and Kane to cause confusion and when the smoke settles, it’s the Dead Man walking out with the win.
Winner: The Undertaker
WWE Champion AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe. – No DQ, No Countout, There Must Be A Winner.
I should be more excited for this match, but for some reason, I’m just not feeling it. I’m sure that AJ and Joe will try to steal the show and blow the roof off of the arena, but the only thing I’m feeling is just “eh”. AJ has already cemented his WWE legacy as the longest running champion in Smackdown history and it’s time to drop the belt, even if only for a short time. Look for a new champion from the land down under as Samoa Joe finally seals the deal. Daddy’s home.
Winner and NEW WWE Champion: Samoa Joe
Daniel Bryan vs The Miz with the winner earning a future WWE Championship opportunity.
This one could easily go either way since Miz is on a hot streak right now, but Bryan is the golden child of the WWE and needs to get that win to get back on track since his record against Miz so far is one strike out after another. I want to see Miz get back at the top of the card and have another run as the WWE Champion. He deserves it and has proven his worth time and time again, but then there’s Bryan and he’s on borrowed time in my opinion. He’s still over, but not nearly as much as he was before his injuries and time off from wrestling. I think everyone is nervous and wondering just how long he’ll be able to last and go this time around. Miz is healthy and has all the time in the world so I think he’ll have to wait for his run with the gold. Daniel Bryan wins and will go on to fight for the big belt in the near future.
Winner: Daniel Bryan
The Shield – WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose & WWE Intercontinental Champion Seth Rollins vs. Braun Strowman & WWE Raw Tag Team Champions Dolph Ziggler & Drew McIntyre.
Instead of having three big title matches, the WWE decided to throw all the champions from RAW together in a six-man tag match. Why? Honestly, except for McIntyre, I have no interest in any of the participants in this match. I’m already bored with the SHIELD and they’ve wasted Braun and all the good will he built up as the “Monster In The Bank”. And Dolph? *sighs* Will this be the match where Ambrose turns against his Shield brothers? Nah, better to tease and throw up a swerve instead. Drew as a member of The Shield? Seth joining the opposition? Who knows and who cares? That will be at the Saudi show when we get any turns. For this night, it’ll be crazy and chaotic and Roman will pin Dolph in the end to secure victory for his team.
Winners: Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins, The Shield…
Bobby Lashley & John Cena vs. Elias & Kevin Owens.
If Cena was planning to stick around, I’d say that he and Lashley have some missed signals and we see Seattle’s favorite team, Owens and Elias, get the surprise pin. Then we could have Cena and Lashley fight and Owens and Elias could move on to more important stuff like maybe the tag team titles. But we know that won’t happen. Elias and KO deserve to get the big win and the big rub, but we’re talking about Super-Cena and he’s not going to come back to WWE to lose. So KO and Elias will dominate, the crowd in Australia will walk with Elias and Super Cena will come in, hit the six moves and destroy any momentum or good will that the two heels have earned.
Winners: John Cena and Bobby Lashley.
WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch vs. Charlotte Flair.
No title change here. Becky is a great champ for the Smackdown Women’s DIvision and she’s just getting warmed up. Look for Charlotte to give a great effort, but in the end, she gets her “lass” kicked too. Look for Becky to retain her belt.
Winner and STILL Smackdown Women’s Champion: Becky Lynch
WWE Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey & the Bellas vs. The Riott Squad.
Poor Ronda to have to carry the Bellas as her partners. I wonder if Brie will botch a move or ten? Probably. I keep hearing that at Evolution, it’s going to be Ronda versus Nikki in the main event so maybe we’ll get the Bella heel turn here. The Riott Squad is just here to be filler and get a trip to Australia out of the deal. Look for Ronda and The Bellas to get an easy win.
Winners: Ronda Rousey & The Bellas
WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champion The New Day vs. The Bar.
I am so tired of the New Day and their pancakes and Booty-O’s deal. But are the Bar really any better? I like Sheamus and Cesaro, but after their runs on RAW as the tag champs multiple times, they’re stale too. That’s what was so good about when the B-Team won the titles on RAW. They were fresh. But New Day and The Bar? Oh vey! It’s same old / same old. I don’t expect to see a title change here. I wouldn’t mind seeing one, but I doubt that we’ll have one here.
Winners and STILL WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions: The New Day
WWE Cruiserweight Champion Cedric Alexander vs. Buddy Murphy.
Is there a Kickoff show on this card? If so, that’s where this match will probably be placed. Does anyone even care about the 205 Live and Cruiserweights are doing? Alexander has been the champ for a while now and I think it’s time to do a title change. I’d much rather see Gulak as the man with the title, but Murphy works fine too. They need a heel champ for when Rey Mysterio comes in and Murphy can do the job to the mighty mite Mysterio as well as Gulak can. New champion here.
Winner and NEW Cruiserweight Champion: Buddy Murphy
Asuka & Naomi vs. The IIconics.
The Iiconics are the local favorites and in their home country. In WWE, that means they lose. And there you go.
Winners: Asuka & Naomi
And there you go. So what do you think? Who do you think will walk out of Australia with the WWE title? Are you excited for The Undertaker and Triple H? How about the addition of HBK and Kane? Let me know what you think? And with that, I’m down and out of here for now. Have a great one and I’ll see you at the matches. Take care.
