Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Fact or Fiction
Crown Jewel, Smackdown 1000, Batista & More
October 21, 2018
It’s time once again to climb aboard the Ho’ Train! Oh wait, this isn’t the “Attitude Era” and I ain’t no Ho’. Well, maybe that one time back in 96′, but that’s a story for another day so let’s move on. Let’s move ahead to 2018 and it’s time once again to do that Fact or Fiction thing, the wrestling edition. As per the usual, the statements below come from the pages of 411mania.com/wrestling. Check them out when you can. And the opinions that follow? That’s just me. Let’s do this…
WWE should cancel the Crown Jewel Event & end their agreement with the Saudi Government.
FICTION: In a perfect world, the answer would be fact and probably if I was feeling a little more politically correct or moral today, the answer would be fact, but I’m not and it’s not and WWE’s not so why even argue or try to moralize about it. Regardless of personal feelings, the WWE has a contract with the Saudi government to put on X number of shows per year and get paid a lot of money for doing so. That’s the bottom line and regardless of if the Saudi government is full of murderers, ass-clowns, perverts or guys who eat dog, it doesn’t matter. A deal is a deal and a person is only as good as their word. Vince and the WWE agreed to this deal, they’ve been paid for this deal and should go through with it, per their agreement. The majority of people bitching and fussing and complaining about this are the same ones that, if they had a phone call tonight offering them X number of dollars to come visit Saudi Arabia, would be on the plane first thing in the morning. Yes, I expect that WWE will have some problems with the media and public relations as a result of doing this show, but when has the WWE and wrestling in general not been not been criticized and disrespected by the media and general public who doesn’t “get it”, especially since there is a Trump connection involved with Vince being a Trump supporter and Linda McMahon being a member of the Trump cabinet. It’ll blow over. It always has before and will again as soon as the jackyls in the press find a new “scandal” to go after. WWE is and should just move on and go, business as usual. And yes, that includes honoring their contractual obligations and proceeding with the Crown Jewel event.
2. Smackdown 1000 was better than Raw 25.
FACT: We had Vince taking a “dance break”. We had a title change with The Bar beating the New Day. We had Batista lay the seeds in for a possible match against HHH. And we got cameos by Edge, Vickie and a few others. It wasn’t great and a lot of things were left out and especially towards the end, it was rushed, but still entertaining. No mention of CM Punk and no return of Hulk Hogan (yet), but it was a good show overall and far better than the cluster-f*ck that was RAW 25.
3. Ronda Rousey vs. Nikki Bella main-eventing Evolution is the right call.
FICTION: I get it why it’s happening and from a WWE point of view, it even kind of makes sense, but for an event of this magnitude, I’d prefer to see a once in a lifetime encounter that has “epic” written all over it, such as maybe Ronda versus Asuka for example or maybe a mystery opponent who actually matters (like Kharma or Victoria) coming in at the bequest of Stephanie McMahon to be her personal hit-woman for the way that Rousey has humiliated Steph time and time again. Nikki is okay as a rival for Ronda, but there isn’t even any kind of doubt about who will win a physical confrontation. I expect that Becky and Charlotte will actually close out the event and that would be the right call. Their match is almost certain to be classic, especially with that “Last Woman Standing” clause. But Ronda versus Nikki, while it will be entertaining enough, just isn’t cutting it for me as the main event.
4. Batista is worthy of a WWE Hall of Fame induction.
FACT: 6-times as the World Champion. 2 times as the winner of the Royal Rumble. A former member of Evolution. And a co-star in two of the most successful movies of all time in Guardians of the Galaxy 1 & 2, not to mention the Avenger’s movie, playing the role of Drax the Destroyer. Hall of Fame worthy? Absolutely.
5. Shawn Michaels’ return at WWE Crown jewel is enough to make you watch the show.
FICTION: I’ll be watching the event anyways because that’s what I do, but just the return of HBK to the ring isn’t enough to make me want to see this event. I’m also excited about AJ Styles versus Daniel Bryan and seeing what Brock does on his final match (so far as we know) with the WWE. And let’s not forget about the “World Cup”. Okay, we can forget about that one because even though it’s part of the next question, I really could care less. But it’s a packed show and I’d probably be wanting to watch it anyways, regardless of if HBK is wrestling or not. That he is wrestling is an extra bonus, like an onion ring that got mixed in with the french fries, but it’s not the only or most important reason.
6. Who will win the WWE World Cup (To Determine The Best In The World) and why? (CHOICES: John Cena, Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy, Randy Orton, Seth Rollins, Dolph Ziggler, The Miz, or Rey Mysterio)
Eight WWE supersatars in a meaning match to determine who gets to have a title that means absolutely nothing. If it’s like his previous return to the ring, Cena can’t and won’t take any bumps so he doesn’t get the option of winning in my opinion. I’m absolutely burned out right now on Seth Rollins so he’s a no as well. Orton? Hardy? Who cares? Angle is a good pick if only to cause more problems with he and Baron Corbin, but Angle isn’t but a shadow of what he once was and cant go like he once did and I don’t see it happening. Dolph? A possibility, but I don’t see it happening either. Rey Mysterio? He belongs, in my opinion, on 205 Live and I don’t get why the WWE put such a priority on bringing him back. He’s not what he once was either and I don’t see him staying healthy for long, much less deserving any kind of major push. I’ll go with Miz. He truly deserves the honor, is worthy of the title, can use this win to put himself back in contention for the WWE title, can use it to build and promote more battles against Daniel Bryan and finally, because he truly is awesome. So the Miz wins and gets to add the title, “Best In The World… F.U. CM Punk”. to his resume.
And there you go. Any questions, thoughts, arguments or opinions to share? Let me know what you think. And thanks again to 411mania.com for allowing me to “borrow” their questions. And with that, I’m out of here. Take care and I’ll catch you on the flip side. Have a great one.
