Tossing Salt Presents:
Heath Slater, Kenny Omega, The Undertaker & More
January 5, 2019
Time for some more of that oh so exciting wrestling Q&A. These questions come from Matt, Jesse and the pages of the Kult Of Kayfabe, aka the KoK. And the answers, that’s just me, myself and I. Let’s do this…
Will 2019 be a break-out year for Heath Slater?
According to Heath Slater, Vince McMahon recently told him that 2019 will be a great year for Heath Slater so obviously there is something in the works for the One Man Rock Band. Do I think we’ll see Slater challenging for the WWE or Universal Championships? Not really, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Slater and a partner, maybe Rhyno or maybe someone else, have a run with the tag team belts. I wouldn’t even be surprised to see Heath reprise his role as a referee for some high profile situations. For Slater, just keeping a job and being on TV regularly could be considered a break-out year, but I hope Vince is true to his word and Heath gets a semi-strong push. He’s a good worker and able to adapt to almost anything and has a loyal following. He deserves it.
What is the biggest difference you see between pro wrestling in the 70’s / 80’s and professional wrestling today?
In today’s business, it’s more about workrate in the matches and the athleticism. In the 70’s and 80’s, it was more about being a larger than life character, with good promo skills and an ability to draw people and fans to the shows. The men and women today are better wrestlers, better athletes and still larger than life, but they’re more generic and cookie-cutter. The old school wrestlers were all shapes, sizes and styles, but each was unique, finding their own way to be a star. That’s the biggest difference, aside from kayfabe, that I can think of.
Could a masked wrestling be effective and a top star in today’s WWE?
There are masked wrestlers in the WWE such as Rey Mysterio, Sin Cara and the Lucha Dragons, but it’s not as if it’s a big secret who they are or what they actually look like under their masks. A true masked wrestler, such as Mil Mascaras or Masked Superstar, where his or her identity is a mystery to the fans and not all over the internet would be extremely hard to pull off. I’d love to see WWE actually give it a try, but I don’t think it would work very well.
Who would you like to see The Undertaker wrestle in his last match?
I still want to see Taker and Sting have a match, but if and when Taker has his last match and officially retires, I think it should be either Kane or if HBK wants to come out of retirement one more time and go to a non-finish with each other. That could be cool. But since Taker was HBK’s last match, why not have HBK return the favor and they can do it one more time. Kane would be best though.
Do you think the Miz / Shane McMahon tag team partnership will lead to a title run for the mismatched duo?
Lord, I hope not. I love Miz and want to see him have as much success as possible, but Shane as part of the the tag team champions when you have a roster that includes, The New Day, The Bar, Gallows & Anderson, The Usos, Harper & Rowan, etc, that just wouldn’t be right. No McMahon’s should be title holders in today’s WWE and especially not Superman Shane.
Word is that Kenny Omega is scheduled for a meeting with Triple H & Vince McMahon. Do you think Omega will end up coming to WWE?
When all is said and done, the Magic 8 Ball says that “YES”, Omega will soon be part of the WWE.
And there you go. Questions, comments and any thoughts are welcome and appreciated. Thank you for reading. And until the next time, stay just too sweet. Take care.
