Tossing Salt Presents:
WWE Elimination Chamber 2019
Thoughts & Predictions
February 16, 2019
WWE presents the Elimination Chamber PPV on Sunday night. Here’s my take on the event.
WWE Champion Daniel Bryan vs. Samoa Joe vs. Jeff Hardy vs. Kofi Kingston vs. AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton inside the Elimination Chamber. Orton will enter the match last.
Let’s take a look at who is in the match and figure out who is and isn’t going to have a chance. Jeff Hardy or Samoa Joe are pretty much no way, no how. Between injuries (Hardy) and bad booking (Joe), the chances of them becoming the new WWE Champion and going on to defend it at Mania is pretty much nill. Kofi was a last minute substitution so I think it’s safe to say he’s out of the running as well. That leaves AJ, Daniel and Randy Orton. I would love to see AJ and Daniel go at it at Wrestlemania, but we’ve already seen that far too many times over the past few months so I think it’s safe to say AJ won’t be regaining his title just yet. So Orton or Bryan. WWE loves Randy Orton and I think he’s going to be in the WWE title match at Wrestlemania, but will he be winning on Sunday night? I’ll go with AJ knocking out everyone but Bryan and Orton. Orton hits the RKO from out of nowhere and takes out AJ and then he gets nailed by Bryan who scores the win and keeps his title, thus setting up a triple threat (AJ versus Orton versus Bryan) for Wrestlemania and allowing Daniel Bryan to be the WWE Champion and winner one more time.
Winner and STILL WWE Champion: Daniel Bryan
Nia Jax & Tamina vs. The Riott Squad vs. Mandy Rose & Sonya Deville vs. The IIconics vs. Sasha Banks & Bayley vs. Carmella & Naomi to crown the first WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions. – Banks & Bayley vs. Rose and Deville will start the match.
I’ve been looking forward to this match ever since the Women’s Tag Team Championship was announced, but now that the time is here, I’m less than overwhelmed at the teams in the match. Three teams (Iconics, Rose & Deville and Carmella / Naomi) are not going to win, period. It’s going to be either the Riott Squad, Sasha & Bayley or else the monster team of Nia / Tamina. The Riott Squad should be on their own as their boss, Ruby Riott, will be busy with her own match against Ronda Rousey so how will they do without their boss? Not too well, I suspect. Bayley and Sasha deserve it and would be my favorites to win, but I have a nagging feeling that WWE will go the other way and let Tamina / Nia make history and win the titles. I hope not, but that’s what my gut says and the gut never lies.
Winners and NEW WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions: Nia Jax & Tamina Snuka
WWE Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey vs. Ruby Riott.
This one is not even worth making a prediction on. Ruby will look great and it will be a better match than most people suspect, but that RAW Women’s Championship will not be changing hands. Maybe Charlotte will get involved. Maybe “The Man” will show up and cause some problems. Who knows? But when the dust settles, the belt will still be with Ronda Rousey.
Winner and STILL WWE RAW Women’s Champion: Ronda Rousey
WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions The Miz & Shane McMahon vs. The Usos.
Well, Jmmy got arrested yesterday so regardless of whatever plans had been made, the title will not be changing hands on this night. I’m expecting that we’ll see issues start to develop between Miz and Shane, setting up an angle for a match at Wrestlemania, but whatever they decide to do, they’ll do it as the Smackdown Tag Team Champions.
Winners and STILL Smackdown Live Tag Team Champions: The Miz & Shane McMahon
WWE Intercontinental Champion Bobby Lashley & Lio Rush vs. Finn Balor in a handicap match for the IC title.
I think that if any title changes hands, this will be the one. Balor has been getting a push of sorts as of late and let’s be honest, the title reign thus far of Lashley, has been bleh at best. So Balor takes a beating here, but then comes back and pins Lio Rush to win the match and title. This keeps Lashley strong and sets up some great TV as we see Lio try to come up with excuses and reasons for Lashley not to smash him into a pulp while also giving Balor a big push, the IC title. We can do a rematch at the next PPV or Wrestlemania. It’s best for business in my opinion.
Winner and NEW Intercontinental Champion: Finn Balor
Baron Corbin vs. Braun Strowman – No DQ.
Does anyone even care about either of these guys at this point? I sure as hell don’t. It’s No DQ so that means it can go one of two ways. Braun dominates, but then McIntyre comes out, gets involved and cheats to allow Corbin to pick up the win or we just have Braun dominate from start to finish and destroy Corbin once and for all. Which one is the better ending? I’ll go with the second one. Braun decimates Corbin and picks up an easy and decisive win.
Winner: Braun Strowman
WWE Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy vs. Akira Tozawa (Kickoff Show)
I like Tozawa and ever since his brief run with Titus Worldwide, he’s been one of my must-see favorites. But Murphy is doing an amazing job as the Cruiserweight Champion and I don’t see any reason to end it just yet. Too bad this match is stuck on the Kickoff Show and most people won’t watch because it will probably be the best wrestling match of the night from an in-ring perspective. I just hope that they give it plenty of time for Murphy and Tozawa to show what they can do and tell a great story in that ring. Regardless, the belt will stay home and with the champ. Count on it.
Winner and STILL WWE Cruiserweight Champion: Buddy Murphy
And I guess that’s everything unless WWE (hopefully) decides to add a defense of the RAW Tag Team Championship titles by The Revival to the show. That would be awesome to see and I hope it happens, most likely against Bobby Roode & Chad Gable. If it happens, the Revival wins and retains their titles.
Any comments, thoughts, questions or predictions of your own, give me a shout and let me know. My thanks for reading. And with that, I’m out of here. Have a great one and I’ll see you at the matches. Take care.
