Tossing Salt Presents:
NXT Takeover: New York
Toughts & Predictions
April 3, 2019
Coming up on Friday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York is the first show of five for WWE on the biggest event of the year, Wrestlemania weekend. It’s NXT Takeover: New York, where the stars of NXT have their own Wrestlemania and get their chance to set the bar and shine. And that means predictions and thoughts for what will probably be the event of the weekend. So are you ready? Let’s do this…
2 out of 3 Falls – Winner is crowned NEW WWE NXT Champion
Johnny Gargano vs. Adam Cole
It’s the modern day “Mr. Wrestling” taking on arguably one of the best wrestlers in the world today as Gargano takes on Cole in a match to be the new NXT Champion, a title vacated due to injury by Gargano’s partner, Tomasso Ciampa. Either way, the title will be well represented and NXT will have a great man as their champion. This match could easily go either way and I expect that will be the case as they split the first two falls of this old school style 2 out of 3 falls match. I think that Gargano, in a tribute to his former DIY partner and as the obvious favorite, will end up taking the final fall in a wild brawl and snatch that win and the Championship.
Winner and NEW NXT Champion: Johnny Gargano
WWE NXT Women’s Championship Match
Shayna Baszler (c) vs. Kairi Sane vs. Bianca Belair vs. Io Shirai
Baszler is one tough lady and I can easily see her keeping this belt for a long time, except for one thing. I think we’re going to see a move up to the main roster by the former MMA fighter and if that’s the case, the belt will have to be left behind. Io Shirai is okay, but really hasn’t impressed me all that much. I like Kairi Sane, but I just can’t feel her as the top woman in NXT. I remember watching Belair at Evolution and she caught my attention. I think her time is now.
Winner and NEW NXT Women’s Champion: Bianca Belair
WWE NXT North American Championship Match
Velveteen Dream (c) vs. Matt Riddle
Can anyone remember anyone who has come so far in such a short amount of time. I look at the Dream now and think back to Tough Enough when he was just Patrick Clark and it’s like a whole different person in so many ways. He’s ready to come up to the main roster and make a major impact. Riddle is an amazing talent as well and a sexy beast and has really impressed me in the few times I’ve been able to watch him wrestle. I think it’s time for him to carry some gold while the Dream moves on to take that next step to becoming one of the immortals.
Winner and NEW NXT North American Champion: Matt Riddle
WWE NXT Tag Team Championship Match
War Raiders (c) vs. Aleister Black & Ricochet
It’s interesting that Black and Ricochet are challenging for the tag team titles here and then, on Sunday, will also be part of the 4-way match challenging the Usos for the Smackdown Tag Team Championships. The War Raiders, Hanson & Rowe, are two big monsters of men and physical machines who have looked really good during their time in NXT and are looking good as the tag champs. I can see Black and Ricochet taking the champs to the limits, but I don’t think we’ll see a title change here. For some reason, I have a feeling that we might see a little backlash from the past few weeks where Ricochet and Black have been having problems with RAW Tag Team Champions The Revival. Wouldn’t it be cool to see The Revival show up and get involved, causing a distraction and causing their rivals to lose the match and their title opportunity? Of course, then we might have to see Black and Ricochet get involved in The Revival’s title defense against Ryder and Hawkins at Mania? It could make for an interesting night. But fantasy booking theory or not, I don’t thick we’ll see the tag team titles change hands on Friday night.
Winners and STILL NXT Tag Team Champions: The War Raiders
WWE UK Championship Match
Pete Dunne (c) vs. WALTER
Dunne is an amazing perfomer who has held on to the WWE UK Championship for nearly two years. And his oppponent , WALTER, is well, he’s not all tha tmuch to me. I’ve only watched a couple of his matches thus far, but what I’ve seen doesn’t impress me. Dunne however, is sharp and on the ball and especially back at the Royal Rumble, he was one of the standouts of the show. WALTER has caught the fan’s attention and I guess that has to figure into the equation somewhat, but I don’t think with his first attempt, he’s going to become champion. Dunne will take everything that WALTER has to offer and keep coming back for more. This belt is staying with it’s current owner.
Winner and STILL WWE UK Champion: Pete Dunne
And there you go. My predictions for the NXT Takeover: New York event coming up on Friday night. Am I right? Am I wrong? Who do you think will be walking out of the event with their arms raised and wearing gold? Talk to me and let me know what you think. And with that, I’m out of here friends. I’ll be back tomorrow with my Wrestlemania predictions and lots more other stuff. Until the next time, take care and I’ll catch you on the flip side.
