Tossing Salt Presents:
Thoughts & Predictions (Part 1 of 2)
April 5, 2019
Coming up on Sunday from the MetLife Stadium is the WWE’s biggest show of the year and with sixteen matches announced and being expected to run for close to seven hours, probably the biggest show ever, at least until Golden Crown. And in addition to all the matches, we have Alexa Bliss as the “Host” and a performance by Elias. Maybe this is where we’ll see Gronk pop up and make an appearance? Or at least Big Show or Kane? As per the custom here at the site, such a big event means not one, but two prediction columns. I don’t want this to be too long so better to break it up into two halves, right? And we still don’t know if John Cena is having a match or not. And what about the Undertaker? I guess we’ll find out on Sunday. But as for now, let’s just break out the Sister Cleo outfit and warm up the old crystal ball. It’s prediction time. Let’s do this…
WWE Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey vs. Becky Lynch vs. WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair.
The main event of the night and it’s winner take all as Ronda is the RAW Women’s Champion and Charlotte holds the Smackdown title and Becky, well she’s just “the Man!”. I still hate it how Asuka got screwed over to make this match even bigger and despite whoever wins, I don’t think that the two titles will stay with one person for long. Better to have two belts for two brands with two champions, especially with the Fox deal coming up this fall. The obvious choice to win here is Becky, but the biggest question is which champ should she beat? Do they protect Rousey and have Charlotte take the fall or do they end Ronda’s winning streak and have her do the J.O.B. And does Vince and the WWE even go with the obvious. They love a good swerve and if Ronda was to make Charlotte tap and keep her title, as well as get the Smackdown title, it would be an epic swerve of massive proportions. And since Ronda has a tradition of defending her title and wrestling the night after a PPV, she could still drop one of the titles to Becky on RAW Monday night. I think we’ll go with that scenario. Ronda makes Charlotte tap and wins both titles and the fans freak.
Winner and still RAW Women’s Champion and NEW Smackdown Women’s Champion: Ronda Rousey
WWE Champion Daniel Bryan vs. Kofi Kingston.
A match where the one-time “B-player” has went all hypocrite and is now defending against the new “B-player on the block”. Unlike the Women’s match, I think that this one will go as the fans and the world want it to. We’ll see a fantastic match between two of the best in-ring performers in WWE today. We’ll see Erick Rowan get involved and Xavier Woods and Big E do their part to thwart his efforts. And the ever so fickle fans will scream with joy as pancakes and unicorns take over the MetLife Stadium and a rainbow appears in the sky above.
Winner and NEW WWE Champion: Kofi Kingston
WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar (with Paul Heyman) vs. Seth Rollins.
It’s time to take the belt off of Brock. I think that everyone agrees about that, but is this the place to do it and is Seth the right “big dog” to do it? It seems like everytime we have a big event and the fans are crying for Brock’s head and are sure that this is the time and there’s no way he can win, he ends up winning and keeping that Universal Championship. Seth should win here, but a lot of things “should” happen. It doesn’t mean that they will. How about this? Heyman gets involved and Brock manages to, after a hell of a match, snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat and keep his title. Then tomorrow night, when Brock and Heyman come on RAW to gloat and celebrate, we see a match made by Vince with Brock forced to wrestle and defend against “The Big Dog” Roman Reigns. Roman wins and gets the belt. Brock is no longer champion. And Seth? He just got screwed by his “best friend and brother” and we get a great feud for the next few months. Sounds like a plan to me.
Winner and STILL Universal Champion: Brock Lesnar w/ Paul Heyman
No Holds Barred: Batista vs. Triple H – Triple H’s Career on the line.
Avengers: Endgame comes out in a few weeks. Batista is one of the stars of this movie which will no doubt set box office records. As Batista’s partner in crime, Groot, would say, “I am Groot!”. Batista wins.
WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Bayley & Sasha Banks vs. Beth Phoenix & Natalya vs. Nia Jax & Tamina vs. The IIconics.
Let’s go ahead and eliminate the dead weight here. The IIconics are not winning. Neither are Natayla or Tamina. It’s down to the current champions of Bayley and Sasha or the returning Hall of Famer, Beth Phoenix and her partner in crime, who’s father and uncle are being inducted into the Hall of Fame the night before, Natayla. Nothing against Bayley and Sasha, but they haven’t really set the world on fire as of yet as the Women’s Tag Team Champions. This night will be all about The Glamazon and The Best There Is, Was and Ever Will Be who likes to wear cat ears.
Winners and NEW Women’s Tag Team Champions: Beth Phoenix & Natayla
Falls Count Anywhere: The Miz vs. Shane McMahon.
Shane may be the WWE’s “Superman”, but I think that Miz has plenty of kryptonite hidden up his sleeve. If Shane wins, what’s the point? Miz has busted his ass for far too long and this should be his moment and his spot.
Winner: The Miz
Roman Reigns vs. Drew McIntyre.
This one has me kind of torn. McIntyre has been so damn good for the past six months and has so much momentum going on, a loss right now could really hurt him. Roman can afford a loss, but it’s the biggest show of the year and he just came back and the fans are going to want that feel-good, welcome back moment. There are arguments that can be made for both men to win and just as easily, for both men to lose. It can really go either way. Hell, I’ll just pick my personal favorite and damn the reasons.
Winner: Drew McIntyre
AJ Styles vs. Randy Orton.
Another match that could go either way and it won’t hurt the other guy a single bit. So do we pick “the Phenomenal One” or the “Legend Killer / Viper”? Who can say for sure? I’m certain that it will be a top notch match with lots of great moves, near falls and two counts galore. We’ll see a phenomenal forearm and we’ll see RKO’s and lions, tigers and bears, oh my! AJ is still full time on the roster while Randy is part time at best. I think we’ll go with the guy who has the soccer mom hair.
Winner: AJ Styles
And there you go with the end of Part One of my Wrestlemania 35 Prediction column. The other eight matches, I’ll have up in a little bit. Thoughts, comments and any questions welcome. What are your thoughts and predictions? Let me know in the comments or send me a personal message and tell me how right or wrong I am. My thanks for reading. I’ll see you again in a bit. Take care and always be just too sweet.
