Wrestlemania 35, Ryder & Hawkins & More

The ever so lovely Jesse, sent me many questions about last weekend’s spectacular event, Wrestlemania 35. And as part of my “getting caught up Sunday”, I’ve got all the answers. Let’s do this…

Favorite moment from Wrestlemania 35?

It was actually on the Kickoff Show, but when Ryder and Hawkins ended “the Streak” and captured the RAW Tag Team titles. I also popped big for X-Pac missing his cue and being out of place for the DX group pose when the new Hall of Fame Inductees came out on stage.

Best match on the show?

The women’s match at the end of the night was damn good and off the charts and I also enjoyed most of the other matches too, but the best match for me was HHH versus Batista. One is an actor in the biggest box-office movie of all time and the other is an executive that helps run the company and they went all out and killed it. No shortcuts or smoke and mirrors, but just a bad-ass, stiff as hell and extremely good wrestling match. HHH and Batista stole the show. ‘Nuff said!

Did the right person win the main event with Becky, Ronda and Charlotte?

It had to happen and Becky was and is definitely the right person to have walked out of that ring with both titles. A well deserved honor for “The Man!”.

Did the right people win the Battle Royals?

I was pulling for Asuka to win the Women’s Battle Royal, but I’m happy that Carmella was the one who got the victory if not the “Empress”. She works hard, deserves it and has become one of my favorites over the past few years. As for the men, Braun won as part of building a joke / comedy angle. I wasn’t crazy about that and would have much rather have seen anyone else win instead.

How long do you think Ryder & Hawkins will manage to hold on to the RAW tag team titles?

Well they got past The Revival this past week on RAW so that’s a good sign. I don’t think they’ll get a long run as the champs since there are far too many great and talented teams on the RAW roster and in WWE in general, but I think (hope) we’ll get a couple of months of enjoyment from Zack and Hawkins as the champs before they drop the titles.

What was the better show? NXT Takeover or Wrestlemania 35?

Both were damn good and exceeded expectations, but I’ll give the nod to NXT: Takeover for one reason and one reason only. Mania was 7 1/2 hours long including the Kickoff Show and that’s just way too long. The matches were great and the wrestlers all busted their asses to try and steal the show, but with a show that long, it all kind of blurs together in the memory and the big matches don’t have as much impact. Less is more when it comes to having a truly great event and NXT proves this every time they come out and have a Takeover event.

And there you go. My thanks to Jesse for the questions. Any thoughts, comments or questions you’d like to share or ask, just drop me a line here at the site or at my e-mail of Doug28352@yahoo.com. My thanks for reading. Until the next time, take care and have a great one. See ya!
