Tossing Salt Presents:
Impact Wrestling Rebellion
Thoughts & Predictions
April 27, 2019
Coming up on Sunday, April 28, 2019 (tomorrow) from Toronto, Ontario Canada, it’s the first ever “Rebellion” pay-per-view for Impact Wrestling. And of course, since there are still a few people left who follow Impact and since they do have some great wrestling talent working for their company even if few people are able to watch anymore, that means it’s time to give a few predictions and try to decide who will and will not walk out of Rebellion with their arms raised and titles in their possession. This show will be airing on traditional pay-per-view outlets and also be streaming on FITE.TV. Now let’s get busy and do this.
IMPACT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Johnny Impact (c) vs. Brian Cage
Special Guest Referee: Lance Storm
I must admit here that I’m not sure what the story is going into this match, but having Lance Storm brought in as the special referee must be significant for some reason. I’m just glad he’s there because he’s Lance Storm and he was and is one of the top wrestlers that I used to watch back during the Monday Night Wars and during the Attitude Era. And if I can be serious for a moment, he rocks! As for this match, it seems that Cage has been after Impact, the one-time John Morrison, Johnny Nitro, etc, for a while and every time he’s just so close to winning, someone gets involved. I guess that explains why Lance Storm is there then, to prevent anyone from getting involved and giving Cage a fair shot at Impact and the Championship. Morrison, aka Impact, is so damn good and a top guy for any place he decides to wrestle. He’s been champ for a while now and I think that while the money is in the chase, it’s time to switch up who is the chaser and who is doing the chasing. Look for a new champion to be crowned and the man who once played the character of “Mortis” (at the request of Chris Kanyon – RIP) will add the words “Impact World Champion” to his resume.
Winner and NEW Impact World Heavyweight Champion: Brian Cage
IMPACT KNOCKOUTS CHAMPIONSHIP
Taya Valkyrie (c) vs. Jordynne Grace
I’m not familiar with Jordynne Grace, but the few matches I went and watched on YouTube show her to be a good talent and impressive young woman. But that being said, Taya Valkyrie is damn good and along with Tessa and Gail (more on them later) stands tall and way above most of the other women in Impact right now. Her hubby may end up without a title this night, but there will still be a champion in the family as the woman who shares a name with the new Queen of New Asgard retains her title and scores a hard fought but convincing win.
Winner and STILL Impact Knockouts Champion: Tara Valkyrie
IMPACT WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP (FULL METAL MAYHEM MATCH)
Pentagon Jr. and Fenix (c) vs. LAX (Santana and Ortiz)
It wouldn’t be a TNA / Impact pay-per-view without some kind of crazy gimmick match with the word “mayhem” in the title. Both teams are so damn good and fun to watch. Is Konnan still involved with LAX and Impact Wrestling? I guess I should go look that up. This will be the tons of crazy match of the night and plunder will fill the ring. There will be shenanigans and wild and crazy as American wrestling meets Lucha and the fans are the big winners here. I really don’t know who will win, but I gotta go with my boys in LAX. I’ve always been a fan since the early days and that’s not changing here.
Winners and NEW Impact World Tag Team Champions: LAX
IMPACT X DIVISION CHAMPIONSHIP
Rich Swann (c) vs. Sami Callihan
Speaking of wild and crazy, this match should qualify just as much as the Mayhem match as the X-Division title is being contended between the champion, Rich Swann and another former NXT Alumni, Sami Callihan. WWE made a big mistake letting Swann go last year and it’s been Impact’s gain as Swann has really come into his own and become one hell of a performer, even better than he was with 205 Live. And Callihan, his reputation speaks for itself. I think this will be a great match and lots of close calls, but I don’t sense a title change happening just yet. Not at Rebellion anyways.
Winner and STILL X-Division Champion: Rich Swann
Tessa Blanchard vs. Gail Kim
One of the best of all time versus arguably the best woman in wrestling today who does not work for WWE as Gail Kim takes on Tessa Blanchard. This should be a good match and I think that Becky, Charlotte and the rest of the WWE women should watch closely as these two Knockouts will be trying to show up the spectable that was Wrestlemania with a fantastic fight of their own. Believe that! Gail will and should give Tessa a helluva fight, but in the end, the ring rust and time away from the ring should give Tessa the advantage enough to score a win. A retired wrestler, even if it is Gail Kim, should never been a current active wrestler in my opinion in a straight up match. And it shouldn’t happen here either.
Winner: Tessa Blanchard
The Rascalz (Dez, Wentz & Trey) vs. Moose & The North (Ethan Page & Josh Alexander)
With the exception of Moose, who I know from ROH and a couple of past NWA events, I’m not really too familiar with the people in this match. I do know Moose though and although I keep wondering if Moose is here, then where is Squirrel? I think I’ll go with Moose and his partners as they battle the evil that is Boris and Natasha, I mean The Rascalz. I wonder if the Rascalz can sing “Oh my darling” and say “O’tay!”? If they did, and brought a dog named Petey to the ring with them, I’d pull for them, but not this time. Moose and The North take that walk to the pay window.
Winners: Moose & The North
And there you go. My thanks for reading. So are you watching Impact Rebellion this weekend? If so, let me know what you think and who you predict to be the winners and losers of the night. Any comments, thoughts, ideas or questions are welcome and appreciated. And with that, I guess I’m out of here for now. Don’t forget to support your local Indy wrestling companies. Until the next time, take care and I’ll see you at the matches.
