Tossing Salt Presents:
Wrestling Fact or Fiction
November 18, 2019
After an absence of nearly a year, the Fact or Fiction is back. I went over to 411mania and there is was. So a little cut and paste to borow the questions from Jake Chambers and Steve Cook and well, it’s time to get busy. They ask the questions and I give the answers. It’s simple, but always fun. So let’s get busy, okay? Hey Hey Hey!
Statement #1: For $50+ US, an AEW PPV needs a home run every time; Full Gear was a NOT a home run show.
FACT: While it wasn’t a bad show, it was hit and miss with Cody versus Jericho and Moxley versus Omega being hits and the rest, more miss than not. We’ve gotten used to paying ten bucks for top notch pay-per-views every month and then we pay fifty bucks for this? AEW is still trying to find itself and I get that, but if they’re going to expect fans to pay this much each month, they need to step up their game a whole bunch.
Statement #2: You approved of the ending of the Jericho/Cody AEW Championship Match at Full Gear.
FACT: It’s basic wrestling 101 story-telling and I like it. Cody sees the good in MJF and much like Sting used to stand up for Luger back in the day, Cody continues to stand up for and trust him. And MJF stabs him in the back and ends up costing Cody the AEW Championship. Now we have a Cody versus MJF war and Jericho have moved on to other challengers. It’s basic and maybe a little rushed for my taste, but it makes sense and reminds me of something that Dusty might have booked back in the day.
Statement #3: Jon Moxley made the right decision to leave the WWE and sign with AEW.
FICTION: I’m torn on this one because I’m not really a Moxley / Ambrose fan, but he had it made in the WWE. A top spot, great money, working with his wife every day, etc. And yeah, he’s not hurting for money in AEW, but he’s not really a top guy. He’s just another face taking up space and doing stupid and crazy things that no one will ever remember or care about. I guess if he’s happy, then it’s the right call, but I think long term he’d have been much better off remaining as a WWE Superstar.
Fact or Fiction – Quick Hits
– one sentence is all you need for this FoF lightning round!
1. Botched!: Titus O’Neil’s fall on the way to the ring at the Greatest Royal Rumble is a better botch than the Ringmaster introduction.
FICTION: Titus had a moment, but has recovered and is doing fine whileThe Shockmaster botch pretty much destroyed a character and a career.
2. Report Card: You would give the WWE Crown Jewel PPV this Grade: F
FICTION: It was not a bad show and had some decent and memorable matches, plus I love tag team wrestling and enjoyed seeing the the OC be recognized as the best tag team in the world.
Statement #4: The NXT “invasion” angle is like every other WWE invasion angle in the last 10 years or so.
FACT: WWE has only one way, it seems, to do interbrand rivalries and invasions, but whatever. It’s creating some interactions we haven’t seen much of before and giving NXT a big push and a chance to stand next to the other two brands and earn some credibility and respect so it’s not entirely a bad thing. I’d love to see some new twists and excitement in the battles of the brands, but I won’t complain too much about what we are getting either. It’s better than the stuff we ususally get from WWE.
Statement #5: This is the correct ranking of the Top 7 Wrestlers Born in November
7. Nikki Bella
5. “British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith
3. Chris Jericho
2. Jerry “The King” Lawler
1. “Macho Man” Randy Savage
FICTION: While it’s pretty accurate, I think that we’d have to put Chris Jericho in the top spot just for the number of times he’s managed to reinvent himself and stay relevant. Aside from that, I’d probably switch Bulldog and JBL. So my list would be: 7. Nikki Bella. 6. British Bulldog. 5. JBL. 4. Christian. 3. Jerry Lawler. 2. Randy Savage. And for 1. Chris Jericho.
And there you go. It was fun to do the Fact or Fiction thing once more and if 411Mania.com keeps them coming, then so will I here at the site. My thanks for reading. Any comments, thoughts or questions, just drop me a line in the comment section or e-mail me at Doug28352@yahoo.com.
