Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Tag Team Wrestling, The Iiconics, AEW on Monday and More
February 21, 2020
As I sit here waiting on clothes to finish drying, why not a little of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A? That sounds like a plan for me. The first question is from a new reader, Jerry K., who sent it to me via Twitter. And the rest are from Matt and the always reliable Cheese. Let’s do this…
Is it me, or is tag team wrestling not being taken seriously anymore? Raw with Rollins/Murphy, NXT with Dunne/Riddle, and AEW with Omega/Page are all singles stars who have been thrown together to beat well-established tag teams to become champions… It would make more sense to me that the established tag teams would have an advantage in these matches…
Tag team wrestling, especially in WWE, hasn’t been taken seriously in a long time. The Revival, one of the best teams in wrestling today, is proof of this. Established tag teams should have a major advantage against teams who are thrown together and not used to working with each other. That’s common sense and why in the past, teams like the Rock & Roll Express and the Midnight Express would often defeat larger and more powerful opponents. The familiarity and teamwork was their advantage. But Vince McMahon, never a big fan of tag team wrestling, enjoys throwing his top stars out there in random tag matches so they can be friends and then foes six weeks later. It’s annoying to fans of tag team action like myself, but what we like and prefer isn’t what matters to companies like the WWE. It’s a shame, but that’s just how it is sometimes.
Manny Fernandez & Rick Rude vs Tony Atlas & Rocky Johnson. Who wins?
Is Paul Jones at ringside for his team of Manny & Rude or not? It doesn’t matter. This one goes to the former WCW World Tag Team Champions quite easily. Rude and Manny win.
Don Muraco vs Arn Anderson. Who wins?
For me, this would be a dream match of epic proportions. I’m surprised that it never happened to the best of my knowledge, but Muraco was in WWF while Arn was NWA / WCW and I assume they just never crossed paths. I can’t imagine either man taking a step back or giving an inch. The mixture of science and brawling would be off the charts and the fans would be standing in their seats as both Muraco and Arn gave it a thousand percent. And while it arguably could go either way, I think that Muraco would probably be the one to get his arm raised at the end.
Who’s the face that’s most over in AEW? Cody, Mox or Luchasaurus?
All are over with the fans and have great followings, but the one most over for AEW at the current time would be, in my humble opinion, “Freshly Squeezed” Orange Cassidy.
Should WWE repackage the Iiconics?
I think so. They’re both very talented women, but the tag team gimmick is getting stale and they need to find a way to boost their characters and standing among the women of WWE. Still team on occasion, but let’s see these ladies break out and make the transition to singles action as well.
Cody said recently that he’s confident that AEW would do well on Monday nights? Do you agree?
While it would do okay at first, WWE and RAW would step up their game and put it down rather quickly. AEW can’t even break a million viewers on Wednesday nights against NXT and RAW would be even tougher to compete against. I’m not saying Cody is wrong, but it’s probably best to keep AEW right where it’s at, on TNT on Wednesday nights.
Jeff Jarrett stated that he believes that Kurt Angle is among the top 5 of all time? Is he correct?
That’s his opinion and I won’t disagree with his right to that opinion. Would Angle be in my own personal top 5 of all time? Probably not, but if Jeff feels that way and thinks so, that’s his prerogative.
And I think that’s all for me tonight. The clothes are nearly dry and I need to get to bed soon. Will we work tomorrow morning? It’s snowing right now so I’ll have to wait and see. But I’ll be up bright and early and ready to sell some liquor. Thanks for reading. Any comments, thoughts or questions, drop me a line and let’s chat. Until the next time, take care and I’ll see you at the matches.
