Ultimate Wrestling Q&A: Nia Jax, Chuck Liddell, Elimination Chamber, Jay Strongbow & More…

Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Nia Jax, Elimination Chamber, Jay Strongbow & More
March 11, 2020

We have questions, courtesy of Aaron, Mike Z., and The Cheese. And I have all the answers. Let’s do this…

Is there anybody in the wrestling industry that, with the right gimmick and a main-event push, could reach a Hogan/Austin/Rock level of popularity? If so, who is that person and why?

I’m struggling here to think of a person who could, with the proper character and push, could rival the men you mentioned. Who has “it” above and beyond any company or brand? Maybe Drew McIntyre? Maybe MJF over at AEW? The thing is that the promotions won’t let talent get over like they were once able to. It’s about the brand (AEW, WWE, Impact) and if a name starts getting too big, they get cut off at the legs and taken down a few notches. Wait, I got one. Rusev. Maybe Angel Garza too.

It looks as if Nia Jax may return at any time. Will you be glad to see her back in WWE?

Surprisingly, I will. WWE has gotten stale and predictable and while Nia isn’t a great talent, she is different from the other women of WWE and since she’s been out of action for a while, she’s fresh. Nia vs Asuka would be a good match to see. Nia versus Shayna or against Becky now that she’s adopted “The Man” persona. Nia, if used correctly, can be a strong presence in the Women’s Division and it’ll be interesting to see what WWE does with her upon her return.

Bret Hart, in a live Q&A, called Hulk Hogan a phony piece of shit. Do you agree with Bret?

Bret knows Hogan far better than I do and while I rarely agree with Bret on many things, if he says that Hogan is a fake and a piece of shit, who am I do disagree?

Triple Threat: Ric Flair versus Harley Race versus Bruno Sammartino. Who wins?

Whoever the promoter wants to win. If the match takes place in the north-east, it should be Bruno. If it’s in the Carolina’s or Georgia, then Ric should win. And anywhere else, I’d give the nod to Harley Race. Hell, I’d give it to Harley Race anyways. After all, it’s Harley Race. What more reason do you need?

How would you rate the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view on a scale of 1 to 10?

It was a solid show from bell to bell and I enjoyed it and watched until the end. Daniel Bryan versus Drew Gulak was great and the entire show made sense. I’d give it a solid 7.5.

Would you like to see Chuck Liddell compete in WWE?

If this was ten or even five years ago, I’d be thrilled with the idea. Liddell is a top guy at UFC with a strong personality and much as Brock & Ronda did, he’d fit in with WWE quite well except for one thing. Liddell is now 50 years old and that’s far too old for a “rookie” to start wrestling, even if it is Chuck Liddell. If he was to come in for a one-shot, depending upon who the opponent was to be, it might be okay, but for anything else, it probably wouldn’t work very well or be a good idea.

I recently saw an old video from the late ’70s where the ring announcer called Chief Jay Strongbow “the greatest Indian wrestler of all time”. Thoughts?

I don’t think so. If anything, Strongbow, who was NOT a true Native-American, was one of the worst wrestlers to ever wear a headdress and do a “war-dance” inside a wrestling ring. Joe Scarpa, Strongbow’s real name, was just bad. He was loyal to Vince McMahon, but that’s the only positive thing I can think about him. Wahoo McDaniel was a great wrestler. Jack Brisco was a great wrestler. Jay Youngblood was a good wrestler. Hell, even Allen Iron Eagle was good in that ring. And Strongbow, he couldn’t smoke their peace pipe.

No names have been announced yet for the “Legacy” and “Celebrity” inductions for the 2020 WWE Hall of Fame. If you were making the call, who would you induct in each category?

For the Celebrity Inductee, I’d go with either Andy Kaufman, Regis Philbin or the much overdue Cyndi Lauper. As for the “Legacy Inductees”, I’d do The Anderson Brothers (Ole, Gene & Lars), Johnny Weaver, Thunderbolt Patterson, Mr. Wrestling II, Penny Banner, Playboy Buddy Rose & Col. DeBeers & Les Thornton.

Why hasn’t AEW been using Shawn Spears & Tully Blanchard?

Your guess is as good as mine. If Spears wanted to be ignored, forgotten and wasted, he could have stayed in WWE and probably made more money for not being used. And they have Tully Blanchard as his manager, a true legend and Hall of Famer and he’s not being used either. It’s an absolute shame and both men deserve far better. I don’t know why AEW has shelved Spears and Blanchard, but it’s not, in my opinion, a good idea at all and they should rectify this situation as soon as possible.

And there you go. My thanks for reading. Any comments, thoughts or questions, feel free to drop me a line here at the site, at my e-mail at Doug28352@yahoo.com or on Twitter at @Doug28352. I’m going to bed now. Until the next time, stay safe and don’t forget to support your local Indy wrestling and wrestlers. Have a great night and I’ll see you at the matches.
