Tossing Salt Presents:
Inspirational People, Time Travel & More

Happy Sunday, good morning and how the heck are you? I’m, doing well. I managed to sleep this morning, laying in that bed until 10:00. And that may not sound like much to you, but for a person who is generally up by 6:30 every day, it’s a great feeling. And now that I’m awake, showered and have a fresh Diet Dew sitting next to me, it’s time to get busy and do some work. No day but today and all that, you know. And yes, I did watch ‘Rent!’ last night. How did you guess? I also watched the South Park movie, but I won’t repeat any of the dialogue from that epic gem here. After all, children might be reading and we don’t want to go to war with Canada, right? Let’s can the chit-chat and get to work.
Life is full of questions and today I am answering them, five at a time. Let’s do this…
Who are three people that inspire you?
I have met some truly amazing and wonderful people during my fifty-plus years on this earth and I’d like to think that I manage to get something, good or bad, from everyone. I have some fantastic friends who have dealt with so much in their lives and they keep me going on, moving forward and looking to what lies ahead instead of what was or used to be. But who are the three that stand above the rest?
I’ll go with Brent Robinson, a writer, director, creative and motivating dude I met many years ago as a neighbor due to the sounds of Alice Cooper and checking my mail, who has followed his dreams and keeps going ahead. He’s the reason that this site exists and who convinced me to stop being nice and start being real and do something instead of wondering and thinking ‘what if?’. A truly special and fantastic person I’m blessed to call my brother. He’s also the man behind SMF Cyberspace (SMFCyberspace.com) and a great podcaster along with everything else. Check him out.
Next would be Theresa. I’m not going into detail, but this lady is one of a kind, the gentlest soul, the biggest heart and someone that even though we rarely talk and don’t keep in touch as we should (my fault mainly, I’m a dork!) she’s always been there for me and she’s my little sister in every way, but blood. She’s the coolest of the coolies (inside joke) and will always be Numero Uno in my book.
And finally, my bro-son, Kenneth. That’s K-Mak to y’all. It’s a weird friendship to be sure and even I don’t get it sometimes, but he’s an amazing guy, creative, smart and a heart of gold. Black gold perhaps, but if you can get past the B.S. and baggage, you’ll never find a better person or more loyal soul. He drives me crazy at times, but this man has been a part of my life for over ten years now and I wouldn’t trade it or him for anything. And his partner-in-crime, A-Mak and the rest of the family, the Mini-Me and the Princess, they’re amazing too and I’m forever thankful for them all. I’m a blessed grumpy old man. And there you go.
Would you rather be able to travel fifty years into the past or fifty years into the future?
The future. I’ve already lived through the past one time and why would I want to do it again? No repeats or do-overs. Look ahead, not back. And screw that whole rear view mirror thing. I think mine has bird crap on it anyways.
Who’s the better actor? Johnny Depp or Leo Dicaprio?
As much as I love Johnny Depp, after watching Leo in movies such as The Basketball Diaries and What’s Eating Gilbert Grape, there isn’t even close. Leo may come across as a prick in real life, but he’s an incredible character actor and one of, if not the best, out there.
What is your “dirty little secret”?
If I told you, it wouldn’t be a secret, would it? But hell, no one reads this and I feel very close to you, my loyal readers. Both of you. So I’ll tell you. Don’t tell anyone, but I’m… I’m… (sobs) promise you won’t tell… I once bought a Barbra Streisand CD. And I listened to it. And I liked it. And I still have it. Oh, the shame. The shame.
Would you like to live on a ship?
Not at the moment. They have all sorts of viruses going on. And besides, if it ain’t the Love Boat where you get to hang out with Doc and Isaac and Gopher, what’s the point? I think I’d rather stay on land, thank you.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Any comments, thoughts or questions, feel free to drop me a line and let’s chat. Follow me on Twitter at @Doug28352. And I guess that’s all for now. I just got a text message. Let me go see who it is. Until the next time, stay safe and stay away from that Coronavirus. Drink American beer instead. I love you Peeps. Take care.
