Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Sammy Guevera, Joey Ryan, WWE Backstage & More
June 23, 2020
Good morning. It’s Tuesday and you know what that means. Ok, so maybe you don’t, but I’ll tell you. Another fun edition of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. The questions are from Facebook and my friend, The Cheese. And the answers? That’s all me baby! Let’s do this…
Thoughts on AEW suspending Sammy Guevera?
AEW has suspended Sammy without pay indefinitely after it was revealed that on a podcast several years ago in 2016 made what was admittingly a bad joke about Sasha Banks and how he wanted to “go rape that woman”. There are some things you shouldn’t joke about and that’s one of the big ones, especially in today’s hyper-sensitive world. So this came out, Sammy is suspended and has to go through sensitivity training. I remember how well that worked for Peter on Family Guy. Oh vey! Sammy and Sasha have spoken about this and all is good and if it was up to me, that would be the end of it, but I guess AEW has to save face and do something to make themselves look good in the eyes of snowflake culture. He’ll be back in three months and this will be buried and forgotten, as it should be. Sammy was making a bad, cringe-worthy joke. He regrets it and never acted nor had any intentions of acting on it. It’s a learning experience for all. Let it go.
Was Impact Wrestling correct in their decision to terminate Joey Ryan & Dave Grist?
Who is Dave Grist? I didn’t even know he was part of the Impact roster and from what I understand, he had Enzo-style heat with the boys anyways and was on the way out the door. No biggie. Bye! As for Joey, there are so many allegations from so many different sources, Impact didn’t have much of a choice. And his response, making excuses and admitting, but not admitting, didn’t help his case either. Having Joey as part of the roster, given his gimmick, was questionable at best. Now with this hanging over him, Impact had no other option.
Who’s Your Favorite Women Wrestler In AEW?
I’ve answered this one before in that I’m not as familiar with most of the women in AEW as I should be. I guess if Awesome Kong was to be a regular, it would be her. Otherwise, I’ll go with Brandi.
How would wrestlers today do against Andre the Giant?
Pretty well actually. He’s been deceased since 1993 and if the wrestlers today can’t beat a dead guy that’s been dead for 27 years, they don’t deserve to be called wrestlers.
Who was the best technical wrestler of all time?
A very tough call, but off the top of my head, I think I’ll go with Dean Malenko. He wasn’t called the man of a thousand holds for nothing after all.
Tully Blanchard versus Nick Bockwinkel. Who wins?
Nick was one of the absolute best of his era and few could compare with his smoothness inside that ring. Tully was also one of the best for his generation and could have a five-star match with anyone. It would be a match for the ages and an instant classic and when the final bell sounds, I’m thinking Tully would manage to sneak out a win.
Thoughts on Fox canceling WWE Backstage?
I guess it wasn’t bringing in the ratings that Fox expected and with the costs to maintain a show, especially now with everyone having to do remotes from their homes, they decided to remove it from the schedule. I understand that it will be brought back as a special when WWE has big events and big shows so all hope is not lost. It was an experiment and it didn’t work. Now CM Punk will be free to do other stuff like make horror flicks and reconsider a return to the ring. It brought him back to wrestling albeit on a limited basis and under contract to Fox. Now we just have to see where things go from here.
WWE is allegedly offering new contracts to many of the wrestlers that were released not too long ago. Which wrestlers do you think may end up being back in WWE when the smoke clears.
I expect most of the agents such as Mike Rotundo, Fit Finlay, Billy Kidman, Shane Helms, etc, to return. As for in-ring talent, despite their denials, I’d like to see Gallows & Anderson return. A Rusev & Aiden English return would be good and I’m always pulling to see Heath Slater back in the big picture of things as well.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Any comments, thoughts, or questions to ask, just drop me a line. Stay safe and I’ll see you on the flip side. Take care.
