Ultimate Wrestling Q&A: Bully Ray, CM Punk, Low-Ki & More…

Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Bully Ray, CM Punk, Low-Ki & More
July 5, 2020

Greetings. I hope that everyone had an enjoyable and safe 4th of July. I spent time with my family, one of my oldest and dearest friends, and some guy from Grindr. Happy Independence Day folks! It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A and I have a lot of questions to get to so no more chit-chat. This is not a Triple H promo after all. Let’s get straight to business and do this…

Name a wrestler (past or present) that you never liked. Why?

Would Rena Mero, aka Sable count? I didn’t like her from the first moment I laid eyes on her as Mark Mero’s “valet” and then she became a big star and I liked her even less. I met her at an appearance in Fayetteville, NC and it was so obvious she didn’t want to be there. She might be a great person and all that, but I don’t see it.

Who would you say is the most over the top patriotic wrestler?

I guess it would be Del Wilkes, aka “The Patriot”. After all, it is his name, right?

WWE has bought out Evolve Wrestling? Now, what should they do with it?

I would say run it as an alternative training brand to NXT and an entity separate from WWE or NXT Essentially make it into a modern-day OVW where stars of tomorrow can learn and be trained before heading up the next level to NXT.

So Brodie Lee is still ain’t living up to all this “supposed potential”. Thoughts?

Nothing in AEW is as it should be yet since there is no long-range booking or top guy to coordinate all the stories and matches and help things develop and proceed more smoothly. Brodie was thrown out there for a quick moment and then pulled back just as quickly. When and if live matches and touring start, I think it will make a big difference and we’ll be able to see what Brodie Lee is really capable of. He has the potential and talent to be one of AEW’s biggest stars. It’s just a matter now of opportunity and timing.

Bully Ray (Bubba Dudley) is now a free agent as his contract with ROH has expired. Where do you think he’ll end up next?

I don’t really see AEW or WWE using him as a top guy so unless it’s for a position behind the scenes as an agent or trainer, I think it’s safe to say that both of those companies are out of the running for now. Impact Wrestling would probably be the best place for him right now.

The Minnesota Wrecking Crew, Ole & Gene Anderson versus Luke & Butch, The New Zealand Sheepherders. Who wins?

My money will always be on Ole & Gene, the Anderson Brothers. The future Bushwackers would give them one hell of a fight and match, but when the dust settled, the winners would be The Anderson Brothers.

Where will CM Punk go now that his Fox Sports 1 WWE Backstage Show has been canceled?

Wherever he wants to. Punk still has an announcing deal to call MMA and also now has a couple of movie roles under his belt so he’s not desperate for money or a job. Until this whole pandemic crisis is over with, I don’t think Punk will be considering wrestling again anyway. But if he does want to get back into the ring, he’d probably get the best reception at AEW.

Should AEW worry about losing to NXT on Wednesday Nights?

I don’t think they need to worry too much yet, but it might be smart to figure out why and make necessary changes to prevent the rating losses from becoming more frequent. It’s been neck and neck since Day 1 so no one has had a commanding lead or can claim dominance. But no one should be too comfortable either or take anything for granted.

What are your thoughts on Low Ki’s COVID-19 comments on wearing masks?

I don’t like wearing masks either, but due to my job and the fact that it makes everyone else more comfortable, I do. Low Ki is entitled to his opinions, as is everyone else.

Does Impact Wrestling have a chance if they sign recently released free agents?

None of the current free agents are going to cause any major changes for life at Impact Wrestling. Do they have a chance? Of course, but they need more than a few names. They need better marketing, more consistent stories, and a reason that makes wrestling fans consider Impact to be “can’t miss”. I don’t really see that happening.

Should Taz be punished for taking a shot at WWE on AEW Dynamite?

Nope. He said what he thought and cut a damn good promo and got some publicity for the company, all at the same time. I’m surprised more AEW stars aren’t doing the same thing, to be honest about it. If WWE doesn’t like what he said, so what? If it’s true, it’s fair game.
