Ultimate Wrestling Q&A: Roddy Piper, John Cena, Warhorse & More…

Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Roddy Piper, John Cena, Warhorse & More
July 31, 2020

Greetings friends. I’m back with another edition of the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. I need to go run some errands, but damn it, it’s hot outside and I’m procrastinating. I also need to do a review of Butcher Whiskey, but it’s too early to be drinking and I still have to run those errands. So wrestling it is. Don’t worry. This one won’t be long, but should be fun. The questions are from Sully. Let’s do this…

Who do you think will be the special guest moderator for the Jericho/Cassidy debate next week on AEW Dynamite?

It’s Orange Cassidy and Chris Jericho in a pre-match debate live on AEW TV. It would have to be someone that will draw an audience, be a surprise, get a pop, and preferably has a history with Jericho. Lance Storm was the first name that came to mind and he’s currently unemployed, but unless a job with AEW comes with the role, I can’t see him doing anything to piss off the WWE brass. Jim Cornette would be great, but he doesn’t like “Pockets” and most of AEW doesn’t like him all that much either. Let’s go out on a limb here. Jericho once feuded with Juventud Guerrera in WCW and he was the man responsible for Juvi having to unmask. Juvi’s nickname is “The Juice”, which would fit into an alliance of sorts with Orange Cassidy. So my guess for guest moderator would be… (dramatic pause) Juventud Guerrera.

Today marks the 5-year anniversary of Roddy Piper’s death. Thoughts on the Rowdy One?

One of the best heels and best talkers in professional wrestling history. I had the opportunity to see Piper work here in the Carolinas and for Georgia, before he went to WWF and watered down his act a bit, and no one could get a reaction like Piper. He was the heel you loved to hate. A true iconic legend and all-time great. RIP Roddy. You are missed.

Crusher Blackwell & Haystacks Calhoun versus Yokozuna & King Kong Bundy. Who wins?

That ring would have to be triple-reinforced to hold all of that weight. I think King Kong Bundy would be the smallest man in the man and easily the most agile and moveable. The match itself would probably suck, but just for the sheer freakiness of it would make it a must-see. Yoko and Bundy would win. Bonzai!

Does WWE need John Cena back?

I won’t say that they “need” Cena, but it would make for a spike in the ratings and couldn’t hurt for a band-aid for the sagging ratings. What they need is consistent writing and booking, some fresh matches, some unpredictability, and a new direction with new stars getting the spotlight and being free to draw an audience and get over rather than being bound by the out-of-touch vision of one seventy-plus-year-old man. But if Cena was to want to come back, they shouldn’t tell him no.

Thoughts on Warhorse?

I watched the match with him and Cody and I just don’t get him. All I saw was Renegade-Light. Maybe having Eddie Kingston the week before spoiled us, but I don’t see anything special in Warhorse. I really don’t.

Chris Jericho has a book coming out in October. Who would you like to see release a book about their career?

Some of the names that come to mind are Lisa “Ivory” Moretti. She was part of the original GLOW, Women of Wrestling, and then the WWF during the Attitude Era. You know she has some stories to tell. I’m sure that Miz would have a great story to tell as well with his journey from MTV to the WWF, Tough Enough, making movies, meeting Maryse, his current role in the WWF, etc. And finally, how about Bob Caudle. He was the announcer for Crockett and Mid-Atlantic wrestling for years, worked at WCW as well, plus had a career as a part-time weatherman for WRAL TV and worked in the office of U.S. Senator Jesse A. Helms (R-NC). Imagine all that he’s seen and been a part of over the years.

And there you go. My thanks for reading. Any comments, thoughts, or questions, feel free and drop me a line, here at the site, at my e-mail of Doug28352@yahoo.com, or on Twitter at @Doug28352. And now, time to go out into the world and that hot sun. Shoot me now! I’ll see you at the matches. Take care and stay safe.
