Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Monty Brown, The Rock, RAW Underground & More
August 6, 2020
There are a lot of questions in the old mailbox today, thanks to Matt, Gilby, and The Cheese. My thanks. And since time is short, let’s get to work and do this. And away we go…
Who’s your favorite BAD in-ring wrestler of all times?
A wrestler who sucks, but I still liked to see them and found them entertaining. The first name that comes to mind was Enforcer Luciano. The guy sucked in the ring and by comparison, Virgil would be Bret Hart or Ric Flair. Yes, he was that bad and his gimmick, an old-school mob enforcer who wore the suit, had steel pins in his hand, chewed on light bulbs, and talked tough, that didn’t help either. But I found him entertaining in a train-wreck kind of way. He only lasted with Crockett for maybe a month if that long. And the legendary Rufus R. “Freight Train” Jones, who was a walking “what-the-fuck” in his own right, he was entertaining to me as well.
Should AEW redesign AEW Women’s World Championship belt? I mean that the title belt looks small, boring and I don’t like it.
It’s small, boring, and ugly, but who cares? It’s not like AEW is well known for pretty title belts. Just look at the still-yet unfinished TNT title. And the Women’s Division in AEW, no one cares about that division so far. If the booking and promotion of the Women’s Division picks up and they get some name talent and great matches, then maybe take a new look at the look of the belt, but for now, it’s not worth worrying about.
Favorite heel turn of all time?
When Barry Windham turned on Lex Luger and joined the Horsemen, that was a classic moment of wrestling history.
Why is everyone so upset about the NBA bumping AEW?
It’s TV and shit happens. TNT pays a lot of money for the rights for the NBA and even though the NBA is full of morons, idiots, and hypocritical pieces of crap, that’s where the priorities lie and should be. AEW is important to TNT and they’re not being taken off the air so people need to quit complaining. Running in different time slots, not running opposite of NXT, might help the ratings and expose AEW to some new faces. It might be a blessing in disguise.
Thoughts on Monty Brown?
Brown was a former football star and worked in TNA, where he enjoyed a reign as the NWA Champion, and then in WWE’s ECW brand under the stupid-ass name of Marcus Cor Von. My thoughts? He was generic and bland and didn’t stand out for me except for the dumb name. He was solid enough in the ring and a decent worker, but in terms of being a big name and star, I just don’t see it.
Thoughts on The Rock buying ownership of the XFL?
I think it’s very cool and it will be interesting to see how The Rock and his “Midas Touch” works with the currently defunct XFL league. I think the NFL should be worried. And hell, with the most electrifying man in entertainment at the helm, I might even start watching.
Thoughts on the RAW Underground segments on RAW last night?
It looks to me like the Brawl For All met UFC and backyard fighting for a threesome and out of that encounter, a bastard child was born and then immediately dropped on its head. I get it that they’re trying some new stuff and maybe building towards Lashley versus Brock or Matt Riddle versus Brock or even Lashley versus Riddle, but it just seemed to come out of nowhere, they threw in Shane McMahon for good measure and there you go. Maybe it’ll grow on me and get better, but thus far, I am less than impressed.
Who would you consider the Top 5 wrestling stars of all-time?
Off the top of my head, I’d go with Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, Ric Flair, The Rock, and Andre the Giant.
Fatal 4-Way Match: “The Rock” Ole Anderson versus Don “The Rock” Muraco versus “Flyboy” Rocco Rock (Public Enemy) versus Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Who wins?
Well, looking at this group, we know who will be the one taking the pin and NOT winning, right? Much love to Public Enemy’s Rocco Rock, but he’s the fall guy here. Ole is a legit bad-ass and true legend, but he wouldn’t be winning this either. So Don Muraco or The Rock? Muraco is a better actual wrestler, but it’s pretty obvious who the winner would be… if you can smell what I’m cooking.
Should AEW sign Joseph Rudd (AKA Erick Rowan), if so should he join his former WWE tag team partner Brodie Lee and become a member of The Dark Order?
While I can see the appeal for AEW to hire Rowan and reunite the former Wyatt Family members, I don’t think it would be good for either man at this point and time. Maybe down the road, but they both need to establish themselves as individual performers first and build identities separate from each other. Let Brodie Lee be a kick-ass Brodie Lee first and Rudd would be better off in New Japan or maybe Impact Wrestling or the Indies first. If they want to team up for a tour of Japan or something like that at some point, that’d be cool, but for now, I think their careers would be better off not quite so intertwined with each other.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Any comments, thoughts, or questions you’d like to see asked about wrestling or anything, just drop me a line here at the site, at my e-mail of Doug28352@yahoo.com, or on Twitter at @Doug28352. And with that, I’m out of here. Stay safe and be careful of the crazies out there. Don’t forget to support your local Indy wrestlers and wrestling. And eat more cheese. I’ll see you at the matches.
