Ultimate Wrestling Q&A: All Out, Jim Ross, Wahoo & More…

Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
All Out, Jim Ross, Wahoo & More
September 7, 2020

Welcome to the show. My toenail just fell off. Damn, that hurts. Film at 11:00. Let’s do the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. The questions are from Matt & The Cheese. And I’m providing all the answers. Let’s do this…

Should AEW have stopped the Broken Rules match after Matt took that sick bump and was obviously hurt?

Absolutely! The back of Matt’s head hit that concrete hard and the match should have been stopped immediately. According to Tony Khan, the ringside doctor said Matt was good to go and could continue, but it was obvious that he was out on his feet. Reby Hardy has blasted AEW for allowing this match to continue and she was right. The match should have been stopped immediately, ruled a no-contest and Matt & Sammy could settle their issues at a later date. The decision to continue was stupid, unsafe, and extremely dangerous to Matt.

Thoughts on the Matt Sydal incident at All Out?

He screwed up while performing a high-risk spot. That’s why it’s called high-risk. At least he can now lay claim to the most memorable debut ever. I’m just glad he’s not hurt and I’m glad to see Sydal at AEW. He’s a good worker and should be a good fit for the company.

How much would wrestling history have changed if Verne Gagne let Hulk run wild as the AWA champ?

I can’t see Verne having the patience for Hogan as the champion for very long so all it would have done, in my opinion, is maybe offset the birth of Hulkamania by a year or so at the least. Eventually, Verne and Hogan would have a falling out and Hulk would have quit the company and headed to the WWF. I think that was inevitable.

Since it’s been a hot topic this morning. If Sammy Guevara had to do sensitivity training for his comments about Sasha Banks, should Jim Ross be treated the same for his comment about Anna Jay?

Jim Ross made a tasteless comment and a bad joke, nothing more. He’s old and old men do that. Hell, even young men do that sometimes. It was nothing compared to what we used to hear regularly during Nitro and RAW in the Attitude Era and during the Monday Night Wars. People need to quit being so damn sensitive and just let it go.

So who will be Kip Sabian’s best man?

Based on the VLOG, it should be either Sammy Guevera or Ricky Starks, but since it’s for a storyline, I’d go with Swoggle if he’s available. No real reason, but I just want to see Swoggle pop up on AEW TV.

Does it bother you that all the championships in AEW are currently held by ex-WWE guys?

Not really. FTR is arguably the best tag team in AEW so them holding the tag team titles makes sense. Brodie Lee is a top talent who was misused by WWE but is now just starting to find his niche. I’m not crazy about Moxley as the World Champion, but Moxley is a top name who made his name in CZW. And the women’s champion, Hikaru Shida, she’s never wrestled for WWE so far as I know. AEW has the best wrestlers in the company as their champions. Where they wrestled before AEW, it doesn’t matter.

How much longer would you like to see Moxley stay champ for?

I’d be happy if he lost the belt this upcoming Wednesday night to tell the truth.

Could Wahoo be a world champion that could have carried the company?

Wahoo was a true legend and wrestling superstar who drew fans and had some amazing matches everywhere he went from the late sixties until the mid-eighties, but would he have made a good World Champion? Honestly, I don’t think so. Wahoo had one style and adapting to different wrestlers, seven days a week, would have been hard for him. Switching from face to heel as the match called for would have been hard as well. I could see Wahoo as a transitional champion or maybe for a week or so, like Tommy Rich, but for long term planning and booking, I don’t think he would be the right guy. And I don’t think he would have cared for it much ether with the schedule that the champ had to keep at the time he was in Crockett. A great challenger, yes, but the champ? Nah, I can’t see it.
