Ultimate Wrestling Q&A: Matt Cardona, Joey Ryan, The Rock & More…

Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Matt Cardona, Joey Ryan, The Rock & More
October 1, 2020

It’s Thursday and that means it’s time to play catch-up. Happy Birthday to future WWE & AEW Unified World Champion, my best friend, and the coolest little dude ever, my Nephew Kayden. He’s the man, period! Let’s do the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. And away we go…

Which commentary team was better during the Monday Night Wars? Jim Ross & Jerry Lawler or Tony Schiavone, Bobby Heenan & Mike Tenay?

I was not a fan of Mike Tenay so that has to figure into my answer. Tony and Bobby, before Tony got burnt out and before Bobby quit phoning it in, were awesome. Lawler was a little over the top for me as well, but he and Ross made an awesome team and played off each other better than almost any other team ever, past or present. So Lawler and Ross win it.

Thoughts on The Rock endorsing Joe Biden & Kamala Harris for President?

The Rock is a great actor, entertainer, and businessman. His choice of political favorites, that leaves a bit to be desired. Even the Great One makes mistakes sometimes. He’s still the People’s Champ. I’m just not taking his political advice.

True or False: Roman Reigns being a heel is the best thing going in wrestling for 2020?

False. Roman being a heel and with Heyman is a good thing for sure, but the best thing of 2020? Have you seen Heath (last name omitted) and his campaign to be hired by Impact Wrestling? Watch that. It’s awesome. Yes, Heath is better than Roman. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

In your opinion, what is the greatest finishing move in pro wrestling?

I was always a big fan of the claw, especially when applied by a Von Erich, Blackjack Mulligan, or the great Baron Von Raschke. Bring back the claw.

Matt Cardona says his AEW deal has ended. What’s next for the former Zack Ryder?

I’m surprised that his time in AEW is already over, but I’m sure that he and AEW are still trying to come to a deal of some sort. But if AEW is not an option for the future, I’d love to see Ryder do a tour of Japan at some point. And wouldn’t it be cool to be someone who shows up in WWE after Wrestlemania and give a major ass-whipping to Drew McIntyre or Roman Reigns and it turns out to by the returning Zack Ryder? Hey, I want to see it. Woo woo woo, you know it!

Joey Ryan has filed defamation lawsuits against several of the women who accused him of sexual assault and other allegations. Thoughts?

Ryan has gone from being one of the hottest talents on the Indy scene and at Impact Wrestling to losing almost everything since these allegations were made as part of the #SpeakingOut movement. Ryan really has nothing to lose and if these allegations are not true, as he continues to claim, I don’t blame him for trying to get some sort of justice and getting his career back. It’ll be interesting to see how this all turns out, but Ryan is a perfect example of how allegations, true or not, can destroy a person’s life and career. He was on top of the world and because of some allegations against him, he has nothing now. If they’re true, so be it. Karma has done her job. But what if they’re not? No one has been charged criminally with anything and there was no trial. Just allegations and some back and forth on Twitter. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Maybe these lawsuits will bring the truth out and justice will be served. We’ll see.

Sammy Guevera versus MJF. Who wins?

If they have any actual matches, I would give MJF the edge and the win. Sammy can win or lose and it doesn’t matter. It looks as if AEW may be headed that direction with some friction between Sammy and MJF and the Inner Circle caught in the middle. I could see MJF taking Sammy’s spot in the Inner Circle for a bit and Sammy turning face since he’s already extremely popular and fan-friendly anyways. I suspect MJF will try to gain membership in the Inner Circle only to then try and take control of the group away from Jericho. MJF screws over Jericho and takes control of the group. Jericho becomes a face and reunites with the then-face Sammy and we have Jericho & Sammy, Le’ Sex Gods, versus MJF’s Inner Circle. Good wrestling stories that are entertaining and will make money. Book it, Tony Khan.
