NXT Takeover 31: Thoughts & Predictions…

Tossing Salt Presents:
NXT Takeover 31
Thoughts & Predictions
October 3, 2020

Coming up tomorrow night is WWE NXT Takeover 31, live on the WWE Network. It’s prediction time.

NXT Championship Match
Finn Balor (c) versus Kyle O’Reilly

This should be an excellent match with a lot of brawling taking place with just a spot of wrestling added for good measure. I think the real story here is how will the rest of the Undisputed Era react as Kyle has been pretty clear in that he’s wanting to do it on his own and is in the process of a strong face turn. If Kyle wins, how will Adam Cole react? How will Roddy & Fish react and will they try to help their Undisputed ally? Will Balor just be as awesome and kick-ass as ever? This match can easily go to either man and it wouldn’t be an upset, but rather an awakening for the NXT brand. I think we’ll see the rest of the Undisputed Era get involved, as will Adam Cole. Balor takes advantage of the confusion and extra activity and scores a win to retain his title.

Winner and STILL NXT Champion: Finn Balor

WWE NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai vs. Candice LaRae.

While Shirai is an excellent performer and has done a great job in her short time as Champion, I think this one is all about LaRae. She has really been pushed strong and has developed into a guiding light among the NXT Women’s Division after being overlooked for so long. Sunday night will be her time and her match.

Winner and NEW NXT Women’s Champion: Candice LaRae

WWE NXT North American Champion Damian Priest vs. Johnny Gargano.

Damian Priest has quickly developed into one of the high spots of NXT each week and in my opinion, it’s far too soon to have him drop the title. Gargano doesn’t need to win or be champion and I’m interested in seeing how Gargano does if his wife wins her title, but he fails to win his. It could make for some interesting stories for NXT to play off of. Plus I just like Damien’s name. Big fan of the movie, “The Omen” here.

Winner and STILL NXT North American Champion: Damian Priest

KUSHIDA vs. The Velveteen Dream.

The Dream is a fun performer to watch and see, but he still has baggage to deal with and I can’t really see WWE giving him any kind of sustained push until it’s all cleared up. KUSHIDA is very good with a great reputation from his days in New Japan and he seems to be getting a push right now so I’ll go for Dream to take one for the team and put the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion over.

WWE NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar vs. Isaiah “Swerve” Scott.

Escobar is a good champion and does the belt proud. Swerve looks good in that ring and has had some great matches as of late, but I don’t see a title switch for the here and now. I see Swerve coming just so close, but in a classic swerve at the end, Escobar will snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and retain his title, while Swerve looks strong and we get an “it’s not over” finish as these two can continue to battle down the road.

Winner and STILL WWE NXT Cruiserweight Champion: Santos Escobar
