Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Cody, Alex Wright, Victoria & More
November 7, 2020
It’s Saturday morning and we still don’t have a winner yet in the Presidential election. Where is Jack Tunney to make a decision when we need him? I’m thinking it should be Trump versus Biden in Hell In A Cell and the winner gets to be President. Let them fight it out. Let’s do this.
Cody can use the name “Rhodes” again. Should he?
For wrestling, I would say no. Everyone already knows who he is and he’s built a brand by just being “Cody” so why change? For outside work, such as movies, appearances, etc, use the Rhodes name. It’s not necessary, but for those who don’t watch wrestling and know his history, it could be beneficial. Even non-wrestling fans know of Dusty Rhodes. But he doesn’t need it anymore. Just use it when necessary.
Who had the better frog splash? Eddie Guerrero or RVD?
No offense to Eddie, but with that selling at the end after impact, I’ve always preferred RVD’s version.
Why is Tony Garea NOT in the WWE Hall of Fame?
I didn’t even realize that he wasn’t a part of the Hall of Fame yet until I read this question. It’s a good question and to be honest, I have no idea why he’s not inducted as of yet. I’m sure he will be at some point. He’s definitely deserving and from what I understand, is on good terms with WWE and Vince. I guess it’s just a matter of time. I would hope so.
Thoughts on Das Wunderkind Alex Wright?
A fantastic second-generation performer with a stupid gimmick. Alex had all the moves and ability, but that dancing, while entertaining at first, overshadowed what he could do in that ring and his eventual evolution to the Berlyn character, oy vey. I liked the Boogie Nights tag team with Disco Inferno and they were a good team. Alex wasn’t able to grow and break away from that character though and it hurt him in the end. Here’s a favorite video of mine of Alex, Disco, & Tokyo Magnum. I think it rocks.
Was comparing Brodie Lee’s character to Vince McMahon detrimental to his career in AEW?
He seems to think so and in some ways, I agree. Rather than being looked at for who he tried to be, he was perceived as a Vince ripoff instead and not taken seriously. I think he’s starting to overcome that stigma, but it has, at least in the short term, hurt his growth as a wrestler and character and held him back in AEW.
Kylie Rae has announced that she’s taking a break from professional wrestling. Thoughts?
That’s all well and good, but her way of doing so, by no-showing an Impact Wrestling pay-per-view, was messed up. And she had earlier done the same thing with an AEW event last year. That’s not professional at all and there is no excuse that makes it acceptable. If Kylie wants to retire, so be it, but she should have let someone at Impact know something before no-showing her match at the event first instead of just not showing up. I have no respect or use for her after doing that twice. Bye Felica. ‘Nuff said!
The Bella Twins seem to be hinting that they’d like to make a return to the ring and wrestling again. Thoughts?
If they’re physically able and want to wrestle again as a tag team to challenge Nia Jax and Baszler for the tag titles, I have no problem with that. Maybe it’s true that absence makes the heart grow fonder, but I actually kind of miss them, and at least they’re a good team. It could be a good match.
Where would you rate Lisa Marie Varon (Victoria/Tara) among the all-time greats?
As a wrestler in the ring, she’s a competent and good talent. She’s not a Daniel Bryan or Charlotte Flair, but she’s capable and knows how to have a strong match when needed. As a character, she’s one of the better and most believable ladies, especially from that era of women’s wrestling and I have always been a fan and enjoyed her work. I’d definitely put her in my personal top-ten of female talents. I also love to see her back in WWE for one last match or run. If WWE ever does another Evolution pay-per-view event for the ladies of WWE, I’d enjoy seeing Victoria make a return. And as a future “surprise” for the Women’s Royal Rumble match, I’d say she’s a definite must. A future Hall of Famer as well. She’s damn good.
