Ultimate Wrestling Q&A: Kanyon, Penelope, George Steele & More…

Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Kanyon, Penelope, George Steele & More
November 22, 2020

It’s Sunday and we’re just a few hours away from the WWE Survivor Series. Retire In Peace, Undertaker. Let’s do this.

Thoughts on The Bruiserweight Pete Dunne?

I’ve only watched him wrestle a few times, but I liked what I saw. The man has good skills, a strong presence, and that “It factor” kicking hard. He doesn’t quite strike me a top-card guy, but give him another year or so, and that most likely will change. Dunne against someone like Seth Rollins or Daniel Bryan would make for a fantastic match. Pete Dunne is good. Very good.

Who’s the better package: Edge and Christian or Degeneration X?

I know my bro will disagree, but Edge & Christian reek of awesomeness. They definitely would get my vote here as well.

According to Meltzer, HHH wants a second NXT show. Thoughts?

Part of me says okay since there are so many talents in NXT that don’t get much TV time due to the lack of time available with only one show, but the other side of me is already groaning in agony at the very idea. In an average week, we already have RAW, Smackdown, Impact, NXT, AEW, AEW Dark, and at least one pay-per-view. Another show, at least two hours long? That is a helluva lot of wrestling to watch and take in. But NXT does deserve more television time and I can see why HHH would think so.

Who betta? Thoughts on Chris Kanyon?

Kanton was a great talent and arguably one of the best in-ring talents in WCW. He was okay on the mic and I really enjoyed his work. I think his real-life issues and some homophobic powers-that-be in management prevented him from ever really achieving what he was capable of and I think he could have been used much better by both WCW and the WWF. He was a shining star for professional wrestling that burnt out far too early. Who betta than Kanyon? Not very many. RIP Sir. You are missed.

Should Zelina Vega go to AEW?

If AEW offers her a good contract and she wants to go there, then she should definitely make the move.

Was putting the TNT title on DA a bad idea? The belt needs more creditability with an established star. I would pick Jake Hager.

Putting the title on a relatively unknown talent like Allin is how you build characters and establish them. I wouldn’t mind seeing Hager with some gold around his waist and maybe he and Allin could have some matches. I’d also like to see Allin take on Sammy Guevera. Allin wouldn’t have been my first choice to beat Cody and capture the TNT Championship, but he’s not the worst choice on the roster. Let’s give him a chance and see how he does.

Thoughts on Will Hobbs turning on Cody and joining Team Taz?

It doesn’t make sense and was rushed and my main question would be why? We’ve only seen Hobbs wrestle maybe twice and now, he’s all of a sudden doing a heel turn on Cody and Darby Allin. There’s no backstory and no build here. It’s a Big Show change, a turn just to be doing a turn. It was rushed and no one has any reason to care about it, one way or the other.

Thoughts on George the Animal Steele. Top tier?

In the late ’60s and early to mid-’70s, he was definitely a top star for the WWWF and a great heel character. During the ’80s, as his career was winding down, not so much and he had become more of a comedy character than anything else, but in the days of Bruno and Pedro Morales as the WWWF Champions, and even for Bob Backlund, George Steele was a top guy and quality opponent.

What are your thoughts on Drew winning the title back?

I’m glad that Drew has the belt back. What I can’t figure out is why he lost the belt to Randy to begin with unless it was just to add to Randy’s resume. I guess there is the “always able to bounce back” factor as well, but Drew’s very career is a glowing example of never breaking and always fighting to move forward. Now the next thing is what will happen between Drew and Roman tonight at the Survivor Series. But yes, I am glad that Drew is the WWE Champion once more.

And there you go. My thanks for reading. Any comments, thoughts, or questions you’d like to see answered, feel free, and give me a shout. Until the next time, take care and watch out for the crazies. I’ll see you at the matches.
