WWE Fastlane 2021: Thoughts & Predictions…

Tossing Salt Presents:
WWE Fastlane 2021
Thoughts & Predictions
March 20, 2021

Tomorrow night, live on the Peacock Network, the WWE Network everywhere else but the United States, and on pay-per-view, is the last rest stop before we go to Wrestlemania. It’s WWE Fastlane. Eight matches have been announced, although one of them, Shane McMahon versus Braun Strowman seems to have been removed, and of course, that means it’s prediction time. So are you ready? Let’s break out the crystal ball, the Tarot cards, the Gary Spivey wig, and the fake Sister Cleo accent. Let’s get busy y’all. Let’s do this.

WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns with Paul Heyman vs. Daniel Bryan. Edge will serve as a special enforcer.

Will Jey Uso end up getting involved? Will Edge play it straight or screw over Daniel Bryan? Will we see the return of Brock Lesnar? Will Braun Strowman order the green jello? So many questions and this will be a fantastic match to answer maybe one or two of those questions. I don’t think we’re getting a clean finish. I think that at Mania, we’ll go for the triple-threat match to both give Bryan a well-deserved spot, protect Edge, and help Roman continue to look like a bad-ass in his role as the Head of the Table. So Uso ambushes Edge, Bryan gets distracted, Roman gets the win and retains his title for now. And in the aftermath, WWE officials add Bryan to the Mania match and it becomes a three-way. Watch and see.

Winner and STILL WWE Universal Champion: Roman Reigns w/ Paul Heyman

WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler vs. Smackdown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks & Bianca Belair.

This one has been getting some great build and could easily go either way. The only thing is, I have a feeling that we’ll see, if Charlotte isn’t penciled in, Baszler fighting Asuka at Mania. That’s cool, but if she’s wrestling a singles match, then the Women’s tag titles won’t be defended. And if Sasha and Bianca win, they’re already wrestling at Mania so the tag titles won’t be defended. See my point? While I’m pretty much Nia’ed out, as are most wrestling fans, I think the best thing here would be, perhaps due to the aid of Reggie, the champs retain. Then they can move on to give other women an opportunity at the belts while Sasha and Bianca can move on with their upcoming match at Mania.

Winners and STILL WWE Women’s Tag TeamChampions: Nia Jax & Shayna Baszler

WWE Intercontinental Champion Big E vs. Apollo Crews.

I like Apollo in his new role, but is it really the time now to take the belt off of Big E? His tenure thus far as the Intercontinental Champion has admittingly been less than awesome so maybe it’s time to hit the reset button and try again. Let’s give Apollo the win here.

Winner and NEW Intercontinental Champion: Apollo Crews

WWE United States Champion Matt Riddle vs. Mustafa Ali.

So is it too soon to have Riddle lose the United States Championship or not? And is this when Ali finally gets his just due and moment in the sun? These two men have good chemistry and the match will be off the charts. Of this, I have no doubts. The whole Ali/Retribution experiment has pretty much been a bust thus far and they need to either do something or just end it once and for all. I think this is where we finally get something. Ali is the new champion.

Winner and NEW WWE United States Champion: Mustafa Ali

Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus – No Holds Barred.

Another brutal match and pains, blues, and agony will rule the night. This should be a fun match, but we already know that Drew is going to Wrestlemania to fight Lashley. He’s not losing here.

Winner: Drew McIntyre

Alexa Bliss vs. Randy Orton.

This won’t be a match so much as an event and spectacle leading to the return of “him”. If Randy and Alexa even lock up or touch, I’ll be surprised. Alexa will play her games, Randy will keep trying to corner her and lay her out with the RKO, and then he’ll appear. And maybe he’ll bring a friend or two. Hey Bo, where you at? And the match will be a no-contest as we enjoy confusion, chaos, and creep stuff with the next stop being Wrestlemania. Watch and see.

No Contest

Seth Rollins vs. Shinsuke Nakamura.

So the build is for Seth to face Cesaro at Mania and I’m excited for that. And along the way, we’re getting a mini-epic between Shinsuke and Seth. No complaints about this either because it’s different, it’s fresh, and it’s two of the best in-ring workers in WWE today. Seth is at the point of whether winning or losing, it won’t hurt him or his character too much. And Shinsuke, he’s been through so many off-and-on pushes, I don’t think it really matters with him either. How about a distraction by Cesaro and Shinsuke picks up the win. Sounds like a plan to me.

Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura

And that’s it except for the potential classic of Shane McMahon versus Braun Strowman that was being advertised for his event, but then was pulled from the advertising. How can a match that means this much not be shown anywhere else, but Wrestlemania, right? So they’re going to prolong the torture for another month or so. Why not take this match and put it with the whole RAW Underground idea, hidden away never to be spoken of again? Oy vey!Maybe someone will get the memo. One can only hope.

My thanks for reading. Comments, questions, and any thoughts are welcome and appreciated. Are you planning on watching Fastlane? Who do you think will win and lose? Let me know. And with that, I’m out of here. Take care of yourself, stay safe, and I’ll see you at the matches. Have a great one.
