Memories & Reflections IV

These are things that I wrote many, many years ago. I don’t want to lose the memories, but I’m tired of hanging on to these old notebooks so bit by bit, I’m just adding them to my other writings. And here you go. The first one is from my Creative Writing class in tenth grade. The following two came from a few years later when I was fancying myself as a songwriter. I can’t play music, but I can do the lyric stuff. Enjoy.

I’ve heard it said
That misery loves company
Yet I choose
To face mine alone

My friends
Those I hold dear
I choose not to hinder them
Or burden them with me

Instead I stand back
And face the darkness
Prepared for Combat
In a battle of life and death.

9/15/84

Enter a realm of light
to be judged by the facts
and placed elsewhere
to continue another life
intentions are the best of reasons
changing along with the seasons
the ends justify the means
try to do what’s right

(chorus)
And enter the Siege Perilous
A tribunal for justice and truth
you live in eternal peace
or receive another chance
how can you lose?

Memories stripped away
Just a shell remains
you begin once again
as innocent as a newborn babe
what you do from that moment on
the decision is yours to choose
just follow your instincts
Seige Perilous always rings true

Repeat Chorus Twice

5/13/91

It’s a purple possum song
Somewhere on the counter
Sometimes in the early hours
Of a restless world
On open roads

(Chorus)
My home is where the heart is
Sweet to surrender to you
As I send my love to you
Purple passion reigns
Purple possum song

Racing down the highway
At a hundred miles an hour
To the dark side
Through the clouds and thunder

(Chorus)
My home is where the heart is
Sweet to surrender to you
As I send my love to you
Purple passion reigns
Purple possum song

I’m on my way back
And your love will bring me home
Will I discover
Your love will bring me home

Racing down the highway
In the early hours
To the dark side
Through the clouds and thunder

My home is where the heart is
Sweet to surrender to you
As I send my love to you
Purple passion reigns
Purple possum song

I think this was when I was needing to break up with someone. Sure seems like it anyhow.

I have to say
What needs to be said
Though I don’t want to
Not at all
It’s something though
That needs to be taken care of
The sooner, the better
For both our sakes
So when will I manage
To summon the strength?
What am I scared of
To let the truth come out?
Repercussions?
No.
Maybe I’m just scared of
Being alone again.

9/29/92

And finally more song lyrics. Someone needs to get up with me and we can put this crap to music.

You say you don’t need me
If I believed you
I’d leave for good
I know I should

But what would you do?
Just call me back
Like you always do
So I guess I’ll just stay here
And let you call me a fool.

(chorus)
Call me a fool
For not walking out the door
Call me a fool
For feeling this way
Just call me a fool
Call me a fool
Cause only a fool would stay

You tell me that you use me
That’s no news to me
I know it’s my fault
To stay here at all
Let you think you can’t lose me

If I leave again
I won’t come back to you
So this time, instead of leaving
I’ll just let you call me a fool

(chorus)
Call me a fool
For not walking out the door
Call me a fool
For feeling this way
Just call me a fool
Call me a fool
Cause only a fool would stay

And I guess that’s enough for now. I have a MySpace survey to complete and maybe some clothes to wash as well. So thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and if you’re a musician and want to collaborate on some songs, give me a shout. Until the next time, take care and be safe. Have a great day and I’ll see you at the Tiki Bar.
