Ring Of Honor Final Battle 2021
Thoughts & Predictions
December 10, 2021
DougMaynard.com
On Saturday, December 11, 2021, it will be the end of an era as Ring Of Honor presents Final Battle, their last pay-per-view event before shutting down for restructuring the promotion and setting the way for a new direction. This is the last hurrah for ROH as we know it and they’ve decided to go out with a big bang and a packed event. And of course, a show of this magnitude means predictions, right? Of course, it does. So let’s get busy and do this.
Six-Man Tag Wild Card Match
The Hex (Allysin Kay and Marti Belle) and Chelsea Green vs. The Allure (Mandy Leon and Angelina Love) and Miranda Alize
Unfortunately, like most of ROH, I don’t know the storylines and who we’re supposed to be cheering for or booing here, but why let a lack of knowledge stop me, right? I love watching Angelina Love, but then again, I also like Chelsea Green quite a bit. WWE really dropped the ball with that lady. This is hour one of the show so I’m sure that it’ll be used to help set the pace for the rest of the event and get that live crowd riled up. And to me, that means that the Allure & Miranda Alize should win.
Winners: THe Allure (Mandy Leon & Angelina Love) & Miranda Alize
ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship Match: Shane Taylor Promotions (Moses, Kaun, and O’Shay Edwards) (c) vs. The Righteous (Vincent, Bateman, and Dutch)
Again, I don’t know much about any of these fine folks, but based on the little I do know about these folks, this should be one hell of a good match. And my gut says we’ll see a title switch. No reasons for why, but we just will.
Winners and NEW ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions: The Righteous (Vincent, Bateman, & Dutch)
Rey Horus vs. Dragon Lee
I’m not sure about Ray Horus, but I have seen Dragon Lee a few times on YouTube and this guy can really go. I’ll give him the nod here.
Winner: Dragon Lee
VLNCE UNLTD (Brody King, Homicide, and Tony Deppen) vs. Tracy Williams, Taylor Rust, and Eli Isom
Another six-man tag match and again with two teams I don’t know of very well. Well, that’s not totally true. I’ve known of Brody King for a while and I’ve long been a fan of Homicide. And go with the guys you know, right? Absolutely.
Winners: VLNCE UNLTD (Brody King, Homicide, & Tony Deppen)
Fight Without Honor: Kenny King vs. Shane Taylor
A fight without honor? I guess that means street fight in layman terms. Kenny King is damn good and so is Shane Taylor. This one might be the match that steals the show and leaves everyone saying, “What the… ?”. It’s a tough call, but since I had the man’s faction losing earlier, I’ll put my money on the head dude to show his group how it’s done.
Winner: Shane Taylor
ROH World Television Title Match: Dalton Castle (c) vs. Rhett Titus vs. Silas Young vs. Joe Hendry
I don’t even have to think here. I’ve really enjoyed the antics of Dalton Castle and I can think of no better way to wind things up for the ROH Television Championship than having Dalton as the man who reigns as the final champion of this era.
Winner and STILL ROH Television Champion: Dalton Castle
ROH Pure Championship Match: Josh Woods (c) vs. Brian Johnson
When did the lead singer of AC/DC start wrestling? Okay, wrong Brian Johnson, but I’ll bet this guy loves being back in black and can shake you all night long. Josh Woods, I’ve only seen wrestle a few times, but he’s got some good skills and I fully expect to see him as part of AEW or WWE one day. I guess I’ll say that Johnson may rock, but he won’t be saluted at the end of the night. Look for Woods to retain.
Winner and STILL ROH Pure Champion: Josh Woods
ROH World Tag Team Championship Match: The OGK (Matt Taven and Mike Bennett) (c) vs. The Briscoes (Mark and Jay Briscoe)
This is a match that I’d love to see. The Briscoes are 11-time ROH Champions and Taven & Bennett are a damn good team, the current ROH Tag Team Champions. This match should totally rock and steal the show. I think that Bennett and Taven are doing a great job as the champs and I hate to see them lose the belts, but The Briscoes are ROH Tag Team Wrestling. When you think of ROH Tag Team Titles, you think of The Briscoes and they should rightfully be the last men to hold the tag team belts.
Winners and NEW ROH Tag Team Wrestling Tag Team Champions: The Briscoes
ROH Women’s World Championship Match: Rok-C (c) vs. Willow
Two talented women, both of who I expect to see in AEW to help strengthen the Women’s Division when the smoke settles and things start to take shape. I think this should be an excellent match. No title switch here.
Winner and STILL ROH Women’s Champion: Rok-C
Jonathan Gresham vs. Jay Lethal
Originally, this was supposed to be an ROH title match with Gresham challenging the ROH World Champion Bandido, but unfortunately, Bandido tested positive for COVID and had to be pulled from the show. Luckily for ROH and Gresham though, former 2-time ROH Champion and current AEW Wrestler Jay Lethal stepped up and now will be taking Bandido’s spot. I have no doubt that Lethal will give 100% and it will be one hell of a great match. It’ll be a great match and it will be too close to call for most of the match, but the outcome isn’t in much doubt. Lethal is an AEW guy now. Gresham is the ROH guy. Gresham should win and take that trip to the pay window.
Winner: Jonathan Gresham
And there you go. It’s a sad day for pro wrestling that they’re closing down shop for a while, but let’s hope that things get taken care of, straightened out, and ROH is back in business sooner rather than later. And as I said earlier, going out with a big bang. And those are my predictions. Am I right or am I wrong? We’ll find out on Saturday night.
And that does it for me tonight. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, any questions, and your predictions are welcome and appreciated. Until the next time, take care and stay good. I’ll see you at the matches.
