Tossing Salt Presents:
AEW Revolution PPV
Thoughts & Predictions
March 2, 2023
DougMaynard.com
Coming up on Sunday, March 5, live from San Francisco, CA, is AEW Revolution, airing live on PPV, Bleacher Report, FITE.TV, and even in some select movie theaters. Wow, they’re really going big time for this event, and it’s a loaded card to be sure. And you know what that means. Prediction time!
And just to note that it’s Thursday morning as I write this. Most likely, with AEW being as they are, a match or two may be added before the show airs on Sunday. If that happens, I’ll come back and update this post and make some more predictions. But that is if and then. As for now, let’s look at the card as currently advertised. It’s time to break out the crystal ball and figure out who will be taking that trip to Tony Khan’s pay window. Let’s do this.
AEW Champion MJF vs. Bryan Danielson – 60-Minute Iron Man Match.
Can MJF and Bryan make a match work and stay exciting for an entire hour? That’s going to be a hard job, especially with the fickle fans of today’s product. That being said, it’s going to be a fun and exciting match. Bryan can really go with anyone and Maxwell, he gets better every single night when he steps into that ring. I can see Bryan going over and to be honest, how he has not yet been AEW Champion is surprising to me. He’ll be there eventually though. Maxwell has been the champion for a while, but his reign has been less than memorable thus far. I don’t think he will be losing the belt here. There will be shenanigans and maybe even some input from the outside, but the end results will be the same.
Winner and STILL AEW Champion: MJF
AEW Tag Team Champions The Gunn Club vs. The Acclaimed vs. Jeff Jarrett & Jay Lethal vs. AEW All-Atlantic Champion Orange Cassidy & Danhausen.
One of these teams is not like the others. One of these teams doesn’t belong. I wonder which team it is? I like the Gunn Club. I like the Acclaimed. I have a great deal of respect for Jarrett & Lethal. But Orange Cassidy and Danhausen? Really? This match has the potential to be good, but more than likely it’s going to be a clusterf*ck. It’s really too soon to take the belts off The Gunns, but I have a feeling that shit & giggles will take the place of common sense. I think we’ll see new champions.
Winners and NEW AEW Tag Team Champions: Orange Cassidy & Danhausen
AEW Women’s Champion Jamie Hayter vs. Ruby Soho vs. Saraya.
She’s not ready for it and hasn’t been all that since her debut in AEW, but I have a strong feeling that Tony Khan is going to want a quick return on his investment. Look for Saraya to win.
Winner and NEW AEW Women’s Champion: Saraya
AEW TNT Champion Samoa Joe vs. Wardlow.
Doesn’t Joe still hold the ROH TV title? I can’t remember, but I’m too lazy to go look it up. As for this match, I think this is where AEW will try to catch lightning in a bottle twice and build back Wardlow. If Wardlow doesn’t get the win here, what was the point of the whole hair-cutting thing? It’s retribution time and Wardlow needs to win or none of it mattered.
Winner and NEW AEW TNT Champion: Wardlow
AEW Trios Champions The Elite vs. The House of Black.
We’ve seen this match happen at least a dozen times over the past couple of months and while all six men have their moments, it’s more of a going-through-the-motions deal now instead of an exciting or must-see match. Hopefully, we’ll get a surprise return or two to give the fans a moment and make it memorable, but unless something like that happens, it’s just another gymnastic spot fest waiting to happen. And the Champions will retain.
Winners and STILL AEW Trios Champions: The Elite
Chris Jericho vs. Ricky Starks – The JAS are banned from ringside.
If Starks doesn’t win, then what has the point of the last two months been? Ricky should win and move on to something and someone else. Jericho should eat the loss, throw a tantrum, and move on to something else. Look for Starks to win.
Winner: Ricky Starks
Jon Moxley vs. Hangman Page – Texas Death Match.
Well, we know that there will be plenty of blood, probably all from Moxley. That’s pretty much a guarantee. Moxley and Page will fight into the crowd and someone will go through a table or two. That’s a safe bet as well. And who’s going over? The smart money is on the Observer Wrestling Newsletter’s Wrestler of the Year, but for this one, I’m not following the smart money. My gut says that we’ll see some consequences of the match between Moxley and Evil Uno from this past week. Uno leads the Dark Order. Moxley busted up Uno. Hangman has a history of alliance with the DarkOrder. Uno and the Dark Order look out for their boy and get involved. And we get the shocker of the night as CM Punk’s favorite cowboy picks up the win.
Winner: Hangman Page
Updated: It’s official and another match had been added to AEW Revolution.
Jungle Boy Jack Perry versus Christian Cage
Uugh! How long ago did this feud start and why bring it back now? I know that Christian has been out with an injury, but Jungle Boy vanished too and Luchasaurus is having legal issues regarding the mask and it went from something interesting to an absolute mess of confusion to totally out of mind to all of a sudden, here it is again. This was supposed to be Jack Perry’s coming out as a top singles guy and future star of the company, but any momentum that they had, it’s long gone now and these two men, as talented as they are, are just sort of here. I hate it for them because they both deserve much better. Let them have this match, do the blowoff for their feud, and move on to something else, please. As for this match itself, Jack Perry, aka Jungle Boy wins. It won’t let him get any momentum back, but at least this will be over and they can move on.
Winner: Jungle Boy Jack Perry
