Tossing Salt Presents:
Ultimate Wrestling Q&A
Kurt Angle, Cody Rhodes, Tony Khan & More
April 11, 2023
Are you ready to talk about the world’s greatest sport? No, I’m not talking about bum fights. I’m talking about the King of Sports, professional wrestling. It’s the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. Let’s do this.
Who has a brighter future in pro wrestling? Dominik or Hook?
It’s an easy answer here as Dom just came off a big match at Wrestlemania, is part of the Judgement Day, and has the most heel heat of anyone on the WWE roster since Vickie Guerrero. Dom is easily one of the most entertaining talents in WWE right now and he seems to get better every week. Hook has that “it factor”, but he’s in the same position he was with AEW a year ago, and has gotten stale. He shows up, does his thing, and then vanishes for three months before doing it again. No signs of improvement or growth as a talent and that’s sad. He deserves better. Dom takes this one.
Do you see Kurt Angle returning for a few matches since he said on his podcast he’s free of back pain after his most recent surgery?
I hope not. Kurt has cemented his legacy and paid dearly in the process of doing so. If he is truly pain-free right now, he needs to enjoy it and be content. All it would take is one bad bump in a return match and he would be back in pain again or possibly even in worse shape with an injury. Kurt needs to just enjoy being a podcaster and legend and leave the actual physical activity to everyone else.
Cody Rhodes is scheduled to “address his future” coming up Monday on RAW. What do you think he’s going to say?
RAW was last night and Cody cut the usual great promo and then went on to challenge Brock Lesnar for a match at Backlash while making sure that Roman knows that he’s not going anywhere and they’re not through. It was essentially what I expected and no major surprises.
If reports are true and lots of talent want out, would Tony Khan be better off holding a meeting like WCW did and telling the wrestlers that if they want out here’s your release?
It would be interesting to see what would happen if Tony was to make such a move, but no, that’s not what he needs to do. He needs to step up, be a leader instead of a friend, and quit letting the inmates run the asylum. If he was to do the deal with the offering general releases to anyone who wants on, he’s liable to find half of his roster, the ones that matter, gone and then he’d be stuck with only the ones who are just there to get a check or don’t have any other options. It’d make a bad product even worse.
If you could give Tony Khan one piece of advice regarding AEW, what would it be?
Only one piece of advice? Just one? Damn! I’d probably tell him to step back, be an executive instead of trying to be everyone’s friend and do everything himself and hire a strong, solid group of people to handle the talent relations, the booking of the shows, the creative direction of the company, and everything else that matters. Learn to delegate. Things in AEW would improve quite a bit rather quickly.
Jon Moxley versus Ric Flair in a “First Blood” match. Who wins?
Both men would be gushing blood and wearing crimson masks before the introductions were complete. Flair would win though because he’d have Little Naitch Charles Robinson as the referee and, at least back in his prime, was able to wrestle a match without always having to resort to blood every night. Moxley is just addicted to it and can’t help himself. He probably bleeds for 7-days a month too. He’s just a weird dude.
FTR is staying with AEW. Thoughts?
I don’t like it, but I do understand. Tony pays good money, the schedule isn’t nearly as hard, they’re allowed to work Indy dates, and they’re getting a hard push as the tag team champs. With all of that, plus the uncertainty about Vince in the WWE, this was probably the right call.
Bayley was pulled from RAW and not even mentioned on the show despite Damage CNTRL having (and losing) a match. Why?
Bayley was back on RAW last night and while her absence from the previous week wasn’t mentioned that I remember, she’s there with her girls, teasing a breakup with DAMAGE CNTRL, and doing her thing. So whatever it was, WWE has chosen to move on with business as usual for Bayley. Nothing to see here.
If you could manage 4 wrestlers, 1 male,1 female, and 1 tag team, from any decade, who would you pick?
So what four talents would make up the Maynard Family and allow me the honor of guiding their careers to championship gold and immortality? How about The Living Legend Larry Zbyszko, Demolition, and Victoria? Works for me.
The WWE is bringing back The Draft. Thoughts?
I think I’ll take a wait-and-see approach to this big news. The brands have been intermingling for so long now with unified champions, people going back and forth between the shows, etc., that the whole brand deal hasn’t mattered in a while now. Maybe we’ll get lucky and this will lead to the WWE/Universal titles and the tag team belts being split up again. I hope so. We’ll just have to wait and see.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions you may have are welcome and appreciated. And with that, let’s wrap this up. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for foreign objects and I’ll see you at the matches.
