It’s time to talk about wrestling with the Ultimate Wrestling Q&A. Are you ready? Let’s go.
Thoughts on WWE Backlash?
It was a hot show from start to finish and that Puerto Rican crowd was on fire all night long. Zelina may have lost, but she’s a made woman now in WWE. That street fight was fun and far better than anyone could have expected, and for Cody, the dream continues. WWE hit it out of the ballpark with this one. An epic event to be sure.
Carlito is back. So was Savio Vega. Thoughts?
I’m not surprised since the Colon family and Savio are such important figures in the history of wrestling in Puerto Rico, but I still popped big time. I hope this cameo by Carlito means we’ll see more of him in the future. That would be cool. It was great to see both men show up and do their things and made for some great wrestling TV.
Cody steals it! He stacked Brock up while he had the Kimura locked in and he wins!? THAT’S IT? That finish was weak, and don’t tell me they cut it short because of blood. It was reported that was the plan. What was that? That didn’t deserve to main event.
It might not have been perfect, but Cody stole a victory from the jaws of defeat after kicking out of an F-5 and got a pinfall win over one of the most dominant wrestlers in WWE history. A win is a win and Cody proved that he’s a survivor. As I said, it wasn’t the perfect ending, but it works.
Kimber Lee Says She’s Stepping Away From Wrestling. Thoughts?
I had to think for a minute to remember who Kimber Lee is. She did some shows for the NWA and I think Impact Wrestling, but I’m not sure about that last part. She’s not a major name in our business and if she’s taking a break or stepping away, so be it, but if she hadn’t made an announcement, would anyone have noticed? Best wishes to her in her future endeavors.
Bad Bunny versus Big Poppa Pump Scott Steiner. Who wins?
Bad Bunny looked great at Backlash and had a great match, but all I can see in this match if it was to happen is Steiner getting mad and beating the crap out of Bunny for real. Steiner would win.
AEW sold like 70k tickets but if the show keeps losing ground, does it matter? Isn’t television the lifeblood of a major promotion?
You make a great point. The show at Wembley Stadium looks like it will be selling out and that’s awesome, but it’s one show in a market that doesn’t get many big events and it’s AEW’s first live event in Europe. It’s a novelty and historic moment, but can they do it repeatedly and keep up the momentum? We’ll have to wait and see on that. But the TV ratings are stagnant and falling weekly. That’s more of something to think about than the sales for one event. If the ratings continue to fall, eventually Warner Media is going to get tired of paying out every week and start looking for something better. Without those TV deals, AEW won’t survive for long. Look at WCW for proof of that. AEW needs to work on its television product and presentation and get those ratings up or else all the sold-out stadium shows won’t matter a bit. It’s true. It’s damn true!
Why are the non-wrestlers (Logan Paul, Pat McAfee, Bad Bunny) having better matches than the majority of the full-time wrestlers in WWE and AEW?
I don’t think that it’s so much that they’re better as it is that we’re not expecting as much from them as we would the full-time wrestlers that we see each week, so when they have a great match, it just seems better and means more. I’m not taking anything away from the three men you mentioned because they have had some great moments and have worked hard to do their part in their matches, but if we watched them every week in that ring, it wouldn’t seem quite as impressive.
You’re doing a remake of The Blues Brothers, but casting WWE stars as Jake & Elwood Blues. Who are you picking for those roles?
For a modern-day WWE version of The Blues Brothers, how about The Miz & Otis? They would be excellent in those roles and just imagine those two men, fronting a band, the West Texas Rednecks perhaps, and singing “Stand By Your Man” to a live audience. That would be outstanding.
Should WWE bring in Chavo Guerrero as part of the Dominik Mysterio-Rey Mysterio storyline?
I could see it happening and it would work and be entertaining, but since Chavo decided to present his idea in public on Twitter, it would never happen now. For Chavito to work, he should have just made a phone call to Triple H or Road Dogg and presented it in that manner. Throwing out a storyline on social media, that pretty much nips it in the bud. Too bad because Con Dom and his family issues have a long shelf life and many stories left to be told. Adding a Guerrero or two to the mix would be a great way to keep it going.
Is it just me is or Omos getting better? Maybe this guy has a future in wrestling after all.
The guy is getting better and the match earlier tonight against Seth Rollins proves that. Omos is a monster though and should be used as such, as a special attraction. He has improved quite a bit over the past six months and yes, I do think that maybe he has a future in this business. After all, The Great Khali was a multiple-time champion and he absolutely sucked. Omos has already surpassed Khali in in-ring skills and ability so maybe we should just keep an eye on the big man and see what happens next.
And there you go. My thanks for reading. Comments, thoughts, and any questions are welcome and appreciated. Now let’s wrap things up. I need a nap. Take care and be well, my friends. Watch out for foreign objects and flying bunnies. I’ll see you at the matches.
